Garangao is a traditional children's celebration that marks the half of the month of Ramadan on the 14th night after Iftar (breaking of the fast).
Where to celebrate Garangao in Qatar?
During the festival, children dress up in fancy traditional robes, carry a bag around their neck, go around in groups in the neighborhood, singing special songs, knocking the doors of neighbors and receiving nuts and candies.
However, nowadays Garangao has become a common celebration in malls and several organizations. They organize special events for this festival where children are given a chance to participate in many activities and are given various gifts besides the traditional nuts and candies.
You may participate in Garangao celebrations at the following locations:
1. National Museum of Qatar
Children between the ages of 3 and 11 years are specially invited to celebrate Garangao on 11 July from 8.30 pm to 12 am at Al Riwaq Building, MIA Park.
The celebration will include different, fun and hands-on activities for children and families.
2. Doha Film Institute and Education Above All
Doha Film Institute and Education Above All celebrate Garangao at The Cultural Village Foundation Katara with a special free screening of Pascal Plission’s documentary 'On the Way to School' at 10:00 PM in the Katara Drama Theatre.
The touching and inspiring film follows children from Argentina, India, Kenya and Morocco and the heroic lengths they go to in order to get to school.
As well starting at 8pm, come to Katara Building 12 for a host of fun and exciting activities for children, including face painting, traditional henna art, giveaways and a special-effects green screen experience.
Free rides to and from Katara are available using the Uber mobile app. Just download the app from uber.com/app and enter the promotional code ‘GarangaoDFI’ when you book your ride.
Select your pickup location and your driver will arrive in minutes!

The Garangao celebrations will start at 8.30 pm at the Aspire Fan Zone. The festival, now in its third edition, is in line with AZF’s commitment to providing year-round activities to the local community.
