Doha residents run 5km to raise funds for Qatar Charity
FASTING 5K, a US-based initiative aimed at creating a network of communities that run for a cause, held its first Doha edition at the Corniche near the Museum of Islamic (MIA) Park on Saturday.
About 20 runners, majority fasting for the Holy Month of Ramadan, took part in the global initiative focusing on empowering communities and the youth with a spirit of self-reliance and service by encompassing in its fold the discipline of fasting, running, and charitable giving.
The Doha Fasting 5K chapter was held simultaneously with five US cities namely Boston, Detroit, Austin, Southern California and Washington.
According to Viqar Hussain, one of the founders of Fasting 5K, the initiative has so far raised about $30,000 from the six venues of Fasting 5K this year.
The proceeds of the Doha race will go to Qatar Charity and the Palestinian Children Relief Fund (PCRP), a non-political, non-profit organisation helping children in conflict areas in the Middle East. [Read more on Qatar Tribune]
