Buy a GPS and check-out http://www.geocaching.com. Pack a bag lunch and check out the beauty of this country. Get out of town and enjoy the desert.

Or wait for just before sunset and enjoy the roads with no traffic. See how fast you can make it through Ramada junction.

Or invite other QLer expats in for a potluck.

if having a gum means hell lot to u during the day then i guess u should set ur priorities straight n forget bout the kinda package u r getting here n move to a place where you can have all the gum u can chew....lolzzz

yes, going to the loo to have a sip of water is absolute joy and not being allowed to chew chewing gum is horrific! I've learnt how to do it discreetly after a few ramadans experience!

I lose weight during Ramadan...because I cant eat at work and i dont like eating in the evening!

I hate having to lock myself into loo to have a sandwich...

I take the travel kettle into my office and we barricade the door and have a look out etc etc

Yes and we sit in a circle on a spartan floor covering with our Muslim friends. We slowly eat dates, savouring each mouthful whilst sipping a dainty cup of tea...talking in hushed tones....and admire their devout beliefs for having fasted since sunrise....their sole sustanance reciting surahs from the Quran...

Get real.... its like a bloody rugby scrum when the scran is on the table.... and thats just for kick off.... and they only woke up an hour before - then P A R T Y or get taken to the hospital by a crane ....cos so over stuffed.

How about Doha Academy Mamoura and luckily they have opened a new branch in west bay from KG to grade 6....well as and when they will be extending the classes accordingly but if you want atleast you can enroll your child and not retuen back to UK. theres a lot that can be done during ramadan. if u are a muslim u wont even get to know how ur day will pass ..praying ..reciting the holy quran and preparing for iftar. if u r a non muslim u can come back home early spend time with ur family n friends. have some gettogethers at home since ull have most of the day free. u can shop n tend to some of ur pending chores. and usually nobody goes out to socialize and eat out before sunset anyways so i guess i wont make much of a difference.its a muslim country and we all should respect the culture and traditions here coz we all choose to come here knowing the muslim culture ..nobody forced us to.

harsha, don't hold your breath.. usually they gain weight during the ramadan, coz you will have to eat for entire night in order not to get hungry during the day...and eating at night leads you directly to gaining weight.. so better like gypsy said, go to Corniche and watch the grass growing..much healthier: fresh breeze from the Gulf, and not too heavy stomach.

Grass not allowed to eat or drink during Ramadan either, so it will not be growing much (unless it does what appears to be the norm during Ramadan, and gorges it self over night resulting in big fat grass come the end of the month).
