Yes Ana It's true, except when i was with my wife that's when i managed to get a smile back and i said hey to a kid who extended his hand to me may be coz he saw a different color not sure, however IF i was alone things may be different or those Qataris might have reacted differently...Question is..are Qatari's really easy to make Friends with Foreigners just like Europeans or westerns? at least Just meet and Say hey, someone might be in need of an assistance who knows, but due to the Culture people end up being strangers to each other all the way..
I want to see Qatari culture but it is so hard to socialise at a personal level with qataris. Like go home, meet the family etc etc. In South East Asia during EID the Malays who are Muslims have a concept of "open house" where by you can drop into their houses, socialise with the family, try local food, etc. Just makes foreigners feel very welcome in the country they have come to work in. Does such a concept exist here?
I think when foreigners come for 2022 they would love to see this. The warmth of the Qataris.
Why is it so hard to get smiles from strangers here. I am a woman and when I am in the mall I give a smile to strangers (ladies), in abayas may be I want to say hi to some cute kids but I get no warmth back. It is so common to smile at strangers in other countries and you say hi to the kids etc.
Does anyone else face this or is my smile not in the upper league?

Hi MM
Thank you for your support. It would be lovely to meet the colleague who laughs for 3 mins at my smile.
I have one colleague who laughs for 3 minutes for each of your smile, you meet her, lol.
Ana, You are right 100 %. That is a normal practice here.
