verse on Abayas

Carrie

Veiled in black

she is more woman in her secrets

than the siren in red

whose skin spills

like cream on concrete

Alexa,

It's interesting how my perspective of this very short (and what i thought uncontroversial) verse meant to me at my time of writing it. More often than not I am the siren in red.. (haha) and in my mind I was trying to reach into the perspective of what it feels to be veiled.

**

Though I still stand by what I wrote , I will be more aware of this as I try and develop my writing. I must also thank you for reminding me of why I am passionate about art. Your words are heartfelt and I am humbled that you pointed this out to me.

I also find it sad that this world has become so full of hate, anger, and prejudice that even art must be conscious of being politically correct.

i will try to send their email to you.

Please do not stop writing whatever you feel and when it becomes a sizeable amount , you could get it published.

Carrie ,

i think your poem is really good and very emotional.

I think you are a very thinking and philosophical person or you could not have done it so well.

Do you know that there is a group called the Doha Writers club which meets every Tuesday and they read and critique each others' works ?

Why dont' you get in touch with them and they will let you know where to meet them and then you can get to read your efforts to a very discerning group ?

keep up the good work.

you're right about poetry being able to bring people together. I agree wholeheartedly! I appreciate your comments because the truth is that all art is human. Hence it is supposed to be biased or else i would be trying to sound like someone i'm not. Because it is biased it brings people together when it makes you think and comment..whether it be negative or positive. That's why i wish i could join/start  a writing workshop (short stories and poems) here in doha.

I have written alot of different things and looking at my past work..alot of it contradicts each other because my poetry changes as my perspective of the world changes.

The poetry i write now as a 22 yr old will certainly be different from the poetry I will write at 50. In the same manner..it is only through feedback that any artist can grow. I love to read the works of other people...

and I appreciate how Eco Savvy lifted an idea from what I wrote and created something different on its own....

It just means that a lot of people have nothing else to do.

Wealth wears white

And renders us blind

To freedom in the shadows

Of a spotless mind

This dainty desert thrives

Ferraris and Porch’s a common sight

& while the world eats of terror and loss

bombs don’t sound in this land of posh

covered in all black,

she is a hidden treasure of the sea

much safer than a revealing siren,

like honey's invitation to a bee

In her secrets

than the siren in red

btw...I'm surprised people commented on this post at all! it's hardly anything really....makes me think that there are alot of people out there interested in learning more about poetry?

I don't know anything myself..which is why i would also like to learn from other people...
