Qatar Bashing

genesis
By genesis

Suggestion to Qatari..
this forum must be named " Qatar Bashing" instead of Qatar living. At least it will be according to its context.
For over a week now, all active threads are about Qataris.
Arrogant, ignorant, lazy, & greedy Qataris. All Qataris are bad drivers. All are uneducated, even the 100's who are doctors, scientist & engineers are fake. Since they have bought their degrees from Corrupted US & UK universities.
All treat people from the subcontinent as slaves.

Just the other day in a conference i'm attending in Paris, a company executive told me that he can't believe i'm a qatari because i show interest in technical issues. Was this supposed to be a compliment??

I accept criticism, through out my 2 years of posting in Qatar living I've always participated in criticizing what's wrong in my country.

But what's written here is beyond criticism. It's bashing & hatred

Are you kidding me? The French are world class whiners. They have been known to whine for days about an egg not being cooked properly. And don;t get me started on Parisians...they whine about everyone else on France all the time and adopt the most superior attitude. Basically if you're not Parisian, you're just not cutting it ;) Parisians are perfect mes ami...at least thaté what they'd all have us think.

ditto! I've been shown wonderful kindness and consideration from my Qatari hosts, keeping in mind I am a paid guest in their country. All my less than lovely experiences have been while driving including the Qatari lady who got out of her car at a stop light and threw a fit at the taxi driver who cut her off. This was followed by the light changing, her jumping back into her car and in her upset state backed into me. When the police arrived, she told them, and fortunately my arabic speaking colleague was in the car with me getting a ride to work that day, that she stopped at the light and I ran into her. Incredible huh? Fortunately, when I went to the police station, the police said my "witness" was credible and it wasn't my fault. I do wish folks would stop generalizing on here and to coin the already worn out phrase, "there are good and bad people in every country of the world".

because 'they heard most bashing only in QL forums'. In other countries, there are these 'undying rallies, protest, here & there'.Even if we call some post bashing or criticizing Qataris, it should be viewed as eye an opener. There are far more worst happening in other countries. On the lighter side,I've posted my comment before on how's my assessment of Qatar, I recalled I said: "So far Qatar is generally peaceful". Dear Doctora and all Qataris in QL,

I am so sorry for you and for those qataris that are nice people.

It's just sometimes, people generalize with no intention to ofend a population...

one thing we all have to admit, no matter the nationality, a lack of education associated with loads of wealth, tends not to produce respectful results...

All my unpleasant "encounters" have been while driving. There is a tendency here, to certain profiles to be agressive and abusive, when driving...

If Qataris are perceived as rude, wont it be good to debate this in schools and government policies, to see if its worth it to introduce corrective measures into society... likewise is done in some other countries i have lived in before.

To finish, our terrible mistake, is this tendency to generalize as everywhere is possible to encounter all sorts of people... the proportions some times leads to generalization... which might not be fare to the exceptions.

take good care of yourself,

I come back after summer to encounter this pile of over sensitive hogwash.

Take it or leave it, comment on, make your point, hurl abuse if you must - it all reflects back as to which sort of character you are.

But to try and tell people what they can or can not write on an INTERNET FORUM sends back the image of a control freak, police state loving, fascist.

Some people self-censor, others don't; it's not your job to be the 'Censor-general'.

Remember. I may not like what you say but I'll fight to the death for your RIGHT to say it.

What a sweeping generalisation to make Doctora. We're all double faced and would accuse a complaining Qatari of being racist would we? I'd personally welcome a discussion about the short comings of expatriates in Qatar. There are certainly plenty to choose from.

Well it seems pointless continuing our discussion if your view of things is so black and white, and if your observations of this web site over the past two years have been so blinkered that you've only seen the Qatar bashing threads.

C'mon guys this back and forth bashing is ridiculous. We are divided enough as it is in the "real" world where Qataris and expats dont really mix for the most part(due to different cultures, blah blah). And yes yes there are plenty of exceptions. Read it again "FOR THE MOST PART" (thats for the clever person who wants to jump me, hehe).

Question: Do we really need to be divided on QL as well?

AMOUD you are full of crap, you make a thread with the title "why people have a bad impression of Qataris" or some ignorant crap like that and then go on to provide an example of some lame incident that had occurred to you that somehow should be used as a way to justify this bad impression of Qataris. That is NOT constructive criticism. Only a narrow minded person would view an entire nationality negatively because of something as lame as that.

Not only that, but you try and compare your ignorant thread with that made of Canadians in jest, and asking why people are all worked up yet you ignore all the other expats who get all worked up when arguing with 7essab. You claim because we argue back with you then there must be truth to what all the other ignorant trash were saying, using your logic there must be a lot of truth to what 7essab was saying about the West being entirely racist and corrupt because of how all the other expats were on him after he made those comments.

When we tell you to leave Qatar we aren't reinforcing any preconceived notions. Once racist trash usually will always be racist trash, and that is why they have preconceived notions in the first place. Besides since it would make your kind happier to be back home and we Qataris are sick of leeches, it's a win win situation if you leave for the both of us.

So what, you think ex-pats in France don't have anything to moan about? Obviously you'll get more ex-pats moaning about Qatar because there are so many ex-pats here. But I've seen comments on QL from Qataris talking about the short-comings of their country as well. They realise it isn't perfect.

If someone has a incident with a Qatari then why shouldn't they post it here. There are plenty of people who have incidents with Filipino service staff or Indian work men and post about it here as well.

I'll be honest and say I wish people didn't b!tch and moan so much on here, it gets boring after a while. But I can see why they do it and I don't think it's worth starting whole new threads to moan about those threads. As I said, engage in conversation. Plenty of others are successful with that tact.

You are only focussing on the people who contribute to threads criticizing Qatar and Qataris and not on the vast majority who do not contribute to those threads. I for one do not criticize Qatar much because I like living here and I like Qataris. I work for a Qatari company and do business with Qataris. Therefore, I know Qataris better than the majority of expats who have little or no dealings with them.

However, as much as I like Qatar and Qataris I do think that many Qataris are crap drivers. I have been here for two years now and have been Qatarized. I am now also a crap driver.

I have read so much negative stuff about Qatar lately... Some of it true but some of it going to the extreme... People usually thinking of moving out here or working here check out QL and end up getting a very bad impression about Qatar and Qatari's it's not right...

JaneyJaney - He isnt a troll... he is posting somthing that should be raised for discussion... Even if it leads to arguements if its somthing he feels strongly about then he should post it...

For all the whining and crying all the Expat's do .. They should realise that there's no way they can have this lifestyle back home.. and make this kind of money.. The place is beautiful, peaceful and calm... As far as driving goes: Its people from all nationalities who drive like crazy Myself included !! The ones who keep cursing n saying i dont know why i'm here should just pack up and get the hell out... Coz its not like anyone's gonna miss u...

Doha is Home to so many of us now more than our own countries.. I think we should treat it like that and not act like some stupid tourists...

Doctora the death of the boy is tragic to say the least, but trust me it is not worth all this, and getting your blood pressure up. It will change nothing, and as you said some people are stupid. Being outraged by some comments is normal, and trust me I also have gotten it numerous times but face to face. Lifes too short to let the small stuff get you so mad (and before you go beserk when I say small stuff I mean the piddly comments, not the boys death)

Pros and cons are every where. So stop complaining all you could see is just one week bashing on QL and not years of performance or How Qatar is getting advanced or growing.

Should have posted something better than that to get more admiration.

it wasn't you who started the qatar bashing

i was enraged when i read some comments about that poor kid who was killed in the UK,

I never cared about bashing Qatar or Qataris, if you can read my profile i am a member since 2 years and i regularly read this site but i don't participate much

but it all changed when i read some of the hateful and sarcastic comments in that thread

it was not the time or the place

we ( my family ) are an acquaintance of the kids family (Qatar is small everybody knows everybody here) they are really devastated, i can't even describe his mother

"A troll is a user of a newsgroup, forum or message board that posts messages with the intent of inciting an argument or flame-war"

Let's just move on and hope that this lessens.. it has been in fact a week full of bashing. I totally agree with you on that..

I am a bad driver :)

It was my post that sparked all this, and to be honest it wasnt the intention. I have read a million different posts on here Qatar bashing, and I shared an incident that happened and named it "WHY people get a bad impression". I was in no way bashing but the thread took off in a way it was never intended. I kept posting this is not the intention of the post and it got to bashing local doctors, their driving etc. My only complaint was the double standard rules, which is not the general populations fault.

Remember kids, opinions are like noses, everyones got one.

it has been really a week full of "Qatar Bashing" and Hatered threads...

I am also sick of it and never posted in those threads.

I spent almost all my life in Qatar very thankfully to Allah and my host..Qatar and its citzens.

I love Qatar and consider it as dear as my Home country.
