Non muslim wearing an Abaya and Shayla

Hello,

Having been to Dubai and abu dhabi (on holidays) me and my family are now hoping to come and visit Doha for a few weeks (husband always gets job offers all over the the middle east, but I prefer to vist the places first to get a bit of an idea as to what I may be letting myself into). I hear the place itself is nice and not as touristy as Dubai which is what we like, but due to this it is a bit more conservative than the UAE, I dont have a issue with this and I do realise that I do not have to wear an abaya, but if it is a bit more conservative then I would prefer to.

Is this ok considering I am not a muslim?

Wearing abaya is not obligatory, but under a strong sun you'll appreciate some sort of protection :)

You can wear an abaya and shayla if you like. There's lots to choose from in Qatar, ready made and made to measure ones. Well done to you for wanting to try it :) Hope you get a sparkly one...

Thats true, who would know?

Thing is, no one would actually know you are a non-muslim unless you had it embroidered on the back of your abaya :)

Wear whatever makes you comfortable. This is indeed a switch, we here on QL usually complain that we arent allowed to run around Doha half naked.

You can wear anything that expresses your personality well. Avoid skimpy dresses and no one will bother you. They might just stare at you but that's ok.;)

I enjoy wearing an abaya occasionally because I love the compliments I always get when I do!

no bikini's in the mall, and you should be OK. Ramadan is conservative, but otherwise, dress like you are off to grandma's and you'll be OK

Since you are a "house wife", stay in the house. You don't have to wear anything then. Just make sure the curtains are closed.
