Eating in Public

We all know that its not permitted to eat in public in Ramadan.

I don;t know what the law is with regard to children, but I would expect that even if children are exempt from eating in public common sense and respect for local culture would infer that they should be fed as discretely as possible.

I was most surprised the other day while shopping in MegaMart to see an American mother make an extremely noisy of display of giving her child food from the cheese counter as she made her purchase. She raised her voice so loud saying "Yummy" several times it was obviously intended as a direct provocation to the many fasting Muslims around her.

I like would say to that woman if you are reading this please have some sensitivity.

Some mothers (women) likes to talk loudly depending on character for sure. Especially dealing with kids which needs lots of confort and motivation. In this case, it may not be necessary be in purpose that she yell. Nor it would be some kind of provocation, or even nationality. Accept the fact that we are human, regardless we fast or not.

In answer to your question, DeeDee

1.I am 100% certain the woman was American.

2. Even if her child was a picky eater unless the child was deaf his mother could have spoken in a normal volume they were within 3 feet of each other.

3. I am not being judgmental simply reporting inappropriate behaviour that actually happened.

4. I belive your support of your co-patriots' disrespect of local customs is misguided.

5. It is rude to type in capitals.

How did you know

she was American? Don't be so quick to judge. Maybe her child is a very picky eater and she has to jump through hoops to get the kid to eat ANYTHING. You don't know where she was from or why she was doing what she was doing so again DON'T JUDGE.

I belive it is ok for kids to eat in public in Ramadan, however I do agree that it is insensitive of that American woman to make a big show of feeding her kid in public, its not neccessary to let the whole whole know the kid is eating! I disagree with Odinah telling Muslims to "chill out" Its their country Odinah and they have a right to expect respect and consideration even if you and your fellow American have none. Offense is due where offence is given.

Most probably it was meant in good faith, do not take it personal.

:-) she is funny. Don't be offended so easily sometimes. Some mothers are like that while they are feeding their kids. Chill out
