Working Hours
I was curious what are normal or conventional working hours in Qatar? From what I have read it appears that mornings start early. 7:30am would appear common but are we talking 8 hour working days or something different? Reading other posts I have the feeling some work people rather short days and yet I have the feeling that some work 10-12 hour days.
I don't shirk work, but in considering relocation, I am trying to consider the family who will come with me and who are young and certainly want their "piece" of me too! 10-12 hour days will not sit well with *the cheese and kisses and the billy lids* [ the family ].
At this stage I am waiting for the next stage of the interview process which I expect to see me flying over to Doha. At that point I would hope to clarify this and other matters with my potential employer. In the mean time this type of information would be of interest.
Thanks in advance of any response.
Thanks to both of you for the response. I thought I had spent enough time sifting through this forum but had not come across the split shift concept.
If what I am told is correct I could be flying over in the sometime before the end of the year for an interview. This information and a great deal of other information I have read will be useful for me.
Perhaps I can buy you both a beer in thanks - if indeed the next stage does eventuate.
Kind Regards,
Looking at your job title I'd assume you're potential employers here would expect you to work 8-9 hr. shifts between 7am and 5:30pm. I'm not looking to discourage you, but going by the shortage of engineers/engineering managers expect to lose your weekends and work afterhours.
Hi,
It depends on which area of business /work your organization comes under.
For ex. Schools, Banks and most govt organizations begin and finish early. Typical timing would be 7.00 am - 2.00 pm.
A trading organization may opt for Split Shifts :- 8 am to 1.00 pm and 4.PM to 7.00 pm.
Many organizations prefer a straight shift - 8.30 am to 5.30 Pm with a break for lunch.
Work Timing in most cases is NOT NEGOTIABLE. But I know a few expats who have negotiated even working hours.
All the best and welcome to Qatar if you do join this firm/organization.
Live life to the fullest
