It's not only Qatari women. It's the culture of some conservative countries, like the traditional cultures (Malay, Chinese and Indian, etc.) in mine.

Some people really do perceive the rules and regulations in Qatar as protective, as opposed to being oppressive and restrictive to individual liberty and prefer it that way. There are pros and cons to every situation in life. Always a trade off

Don't think only Qatari girls appear so.. others who appear to be so are simply cautious and smarter cos many (not all) guys lie all (or most) of the time. Many married or attached ones live like "bachelors" here so can't blame the girls for being cautious.

I think women everywhere in the world have attitude these days. It is the result of globalisation, women's independence and empowerment. Many single women like to give the impression that they are doing fine without men in their lives when deep down inside they really need us but they don't want to show it. For most guys it's not so easy to impress women these days - women's expectations of men are so high and even the ugly ones regard themselves as high & mighty princesses. My advice to the single men out there is not to put these women on a pedestal - many of them don't deserve it. Only be nice to the ones that reciprocate your efforts and affections.

i am wondering why we care so much about things like those.each of us is on his own way special,beautyful and lovable.sorry but i think its time to face the real problems in this world.

The solution is simple.

Pay 10,000 hot women to come to Qatar and walk around in skimpy outfits for a week and reject ever advance made.

By then, every guy will get his "OMG SHE'S SO HOT AND WANTS ME!" feeling out of them and seeing women smiling outside and walking around rather than hiding out in their homes will be the norm.

The Intercon in Muscat has a nice pub. You will just have to build a 5 star hotel Super.

It's BYOB once you get your liquor license, but there is a fridge in the pool house (It used to be a Starbucks).

I would be well up for buying a hotel and making an awesome bar but the problem is getting a liquor licence. They only really issue them to 5* hotels.

I don't even know any wine bars in the UK. They disappeared in the 80s

Tendai, the Ritz and the Four Seasons have ok cigar bars, but I don't believe I've seen a wine bar.

Bfly it is part of the tennis stadium but it is near the airport. It has an indoor section too but massive outdoor big. All waitresses are irish (to add to the theme but it also means they are competent) and they serve pork as well as beer

I'm going to open my own pub here at my compound, there's nobody else there for the rest of the summer but me, I'll take over the pool house and the club house...It'll still suck though.

Yeah there is a distinct lack of decent pub. What we want is an Irish village (from Dubai) equivalent. That place is perfect. For those who haven't been it is an irish pub but about 80% of it is outdoor.

The ratio here is 20 men to 1 girl so you are very very lucky that you are coming with a wife. Don't let her go, whatever you do. They are also mostly dance bars with loud music, and no place to sit down. They aren't very cozy. The drinks are really expensive, the place is one big smoke cloud. Usually the only women who are in the bar will talk to you and go home with you, for a price...

Actually, when they came into class with shirts like that we usually had to get one of the Korean/English teachers to call the parents and explain what the shirt said (after we explained it to the Korean teachers who don't understand a word of English slang) and the parents used to be soooo embarrassed.

Sammie these kids have No idea what those shirts say, neither does the rest of the Korean population, thats why they put this stuff on shirts. Usually their shirts make no sense at all, they just like the way the English words look.

Steve1477, from reading some of the female contributions to this discussion and my experience of women in Qatar, which admittedly is limited at the moment, there appear to be some very interesting and intelligent women here from all over the world.

Not sure of the circumstances of your experiences but maybe if you took the time out to talk to and understand them (if any man actually understands a woman) and the variety of cultures maybe you wouldn't have had such negative experiences.

As for branding them all as homosexuals that is akin to me branding everyone from the US stupid and ignorant.

Afro, did the thought that the girl may be both single and NOT interested (or not interested in this particular case) ever cross your mind? See, Steve here thinks if the girl is singe and not jumping on him at the first opportunity then she is either homosexual or immature/prepubescent. Don't make the same mistake. Deep down, nobody likes a pushover and girls like the guys to make an effort, just like you guys do. As DG has said previously, don't spook the girl by offering her a ride, and generally don't put her in an uncomfortable situation. Dating in Asia as an expatriate sucks. There is no other word for it. You aren't in an environment that you feel comfortable in, were you are sure about the culture and values of everyone you meet, or even the language. Chances are one gender is more sought after than the other, in south east and north east Asia it's men, in the Gulf it's women. That kind of attention tends to go to peoples heads, especially if they never experienced it before. It has nothing to do with maturity, it has everything to do with human nature.

So I'm sorry men that the women here are giving you the attention you're due (though after Steve-O's comments about homosexuals I can kind of see why hes not getting any attention), but there is only 1 of us to 20 of you, so suck it up and deal with it. I had to in Korea, Japan and Veitnam, now its your turn. ;D

Don't worry, I do understand the loneliness solitude could bring and the frustration resulting from failure to get out of it, and I commisserate with everyone who find themselves in such a situation. But, as you pointed out, there are other ways to vent out frustrations without being rude to anyone.

Oh, by the way, I find Qatari women, very friendly, cheerful and educated. They always swarm around my baby when we meet them at City Center, Landmark, or even in our compound.

Never Never Ever in a million years ever try to approach a girl (especially a Western girl) who is standing on the street and ask her if she wants a ride. I have noticed here in Qatar that offering someone a ride is perfectly acceptable however, in the West it isn't. Not because it is not polite, but because we don't talk to strangers and we most certainly do not get in their cars. It's more of a pub (as pub as Qatar can get) atmosphere and the girls tend to be a little more relaxed and just out to chat drink a few beers and have a good time. Go there act casual, start a conversation, if she isn't interested let her walk away, if she is chat for awhile, don't try to get her in the sack that night, take her number, call her the next day. Above all don't try too hard. You know how guys like it when girls play hard to get, well girls like it too. Act like you just want to be her friend and you could care less if you ever saw her naked.

My particular advice, because this happens to me every single bloody weekend, if you see a young girl in her twenties trapped in conversation with a guy who must be at least 45 or older, rescue her!

Steve made some good points about the girls here being too stuck up, but he came off overly harsh. The people here arent used to this kind of upfront behaviour.

I am from pakistan so I can relate to the pakistani girls here. Most are HUGELY stuck up, hit on them or not, they talk to you like they are on another level.

Pakistani/Indian girls in canada on the other hand, are a whole nother story. Much more open and honest.

Its just one of those things thats different from country to country.

All I can advice here is that girls with a american/canadian background are much more open then the locals(arabs or not)

His description of women in Qatar reminds me of the men in Korea. They behaved very much the same way that the women here do. It was a result of having beautiful Korean girls fawn all over them constantly, never arguing, never complaining. Went straight to the boys heads, poor things. The Western guys never adjust very well to going back to their own countries so many just keep going to Korea again, and again, finally to marry a women that he can barely speak to and feel culturally awkward with her family who hate his silly white ass. (Koreans would never marry a black guy or Arab because they hate them).

I find Qatar a refreashing change, I like not scraping the bottom of the barrel to find a man. I like being treated like something special, which I am and which is how every girl deserves to be treated, regardless of her culture, race, shape or size. We are not objects to be used and tossed away when finished with. I treat the men here the way they treat me. If you treat me like a whore I will treat you as a slimeball, however if you teach me with respect, I will do the same. Unfortunately there are far more slimeballs here than there are respectful ones (among English speaking expats anyway). Therefore to the respectful ones, be paitient with us, when we get away from the bar (where are walls are at their absolute highest) and get to know you a little, we will treat you like the princes you are.

You appear to know a great deal about all the girls in Qatar. Wow what an interesting insight. Let me tell you why we are so snotty: because of the guys like you. They make us behave like that because they'd hit on anything female and not take a NO for an answer. The only way to avoid being harrassed by dimwits who don't know what NO means is to behave as if they don't exist. And for the most part, our life would be much better here if they didn't. It's not that we think we are supermodels: not at all, we know very well what we look like, and we know what models look like as well.
