Woman who faked pregnancy is jailed

A QATARI woman fooled her husband into thinking she was pregnant – and then brought a baby from Lebanon home telling him it was their child.
The desperate 31-year-old hatched the plan because she feared her husband would divorce her or take a second wife after she had trouble conceiving.
However, the truth came out when the husband was told by a doctor that his wife had never been pregnant. When he took the baby for medical tests he discovered that neither he nor his wife were the child’s natural parents.

agree with gypsy,...the mum had sold her child for the first time, she might do it again,...poor child, he/she deserves better..

and women shouldn't cower to their husbands just because they couldn't conceive?

Honestly, the MAN should look at it in a different perspective... the wife did it out of LOVE (assuming).

Butt, their culture is different from ours...so WHAT TO DO, YANI...

The last place that child should go is back to the natural mum! She'll just sell it again!

In arab culture adoption is very rare and disliked by most families (particularly the husband and his side). And a husband will and does marry a second wife if his first cannot have a child. This particularly happens in families with less education however is known throughout the arab world. Husbands and wives who live together childless and happy do happen however the marriage is seen as an extraordinary circumstance where the man loves his wife more then what is usual. And definately a sign that the arab world is starting to modernize.

I reckon she felt alot of pressure depending on her family and community as a women who divorces can be ruined forever. At the very least she will suffer as the lesser of the two wives and live with fear his second wife will monopolise the situation.

I do agree that she should be punished for the lie!

I have to agree with QT, right now there's no proof that he did anything, she's obviously a bit nuts.

By QT• 9 Sep 2008 09:22

...without any proof of him doing ANY wrong!

What she did was wrong, no point trying to blame the husband, without an idea of what he did, if anything!

He could just be an innocent victim as she is obviously a conniving cow

agree with lovinni,..they could have thought of in vitro fertilization, etc..if all else fails, then adoption comes in...

Who provides for them? And this child? I assume the man won't keep it, and everyone else is in jail...

the woman was too scared to tell her husband the truth...she might get beaten or divorced. what is wrong is her is that she took the child illegally, which is the only thing she can think of. to present a baby.

if her husband is open minded, this case wont happen...there are procedures to take if she really want to conceived. and lastly to adopt a child - legal basis.

to the child? Why couldn't she just adopt a child and not be deceitful? Is it so important to have only biological children?

How did she manage to hide the pregnancy from her husband??

I personaly think that she does not deserve to be punished, since she was obviously under mental duress and did not harm anyone.

I feel for the poor woman, but she does deserve to be punished, no matter what her intentions buying and selling children is illegal and needs to be stopped, especially in this part of the world.

Who is to be jailed and who is the one who needs to be fined??? Wife did all this to protect her marriage, though she took an extrem step, but still I respect her for the efforts that she took to save her marriage.
