Thanks Lou & Kofe for your suggestion. Summary of your suggestion means I must need land line. No way out there. Because it's disgusting to get land line here. Huge formality has to maintain for getting a land line in Qatar. That's why I am looking for wireless connection. Before I was in Saudi where it's very easy to get land line. If anybody call Saudi Telecom Customer service for new land line, they will install it next working day. They need Iqama (as same as RP in Qatar)Photocopy only. For ADSL connection in Saudi it will take 2/3 days only.

However, thank you for your assistance.

I have wireless internet that i set up myself but heres the jist of it, as lou said you have to get a landline first, there is no if's/and's/but's about it. once you get your landline then you apply for barq (ADSL) which is as far as i know the only broadband in Qatar (thats affordable anyways) Once you have this connected then you will need to get a wireless router/modem combo, i use a netgear, i don't know the specific model but its best to get the combined router/modem. The modem Qtel gives you is a piece of crap USB modem that can not be used for wireless or at least i never figured out how to use it.

Anyways, once you get the modem/router and set it up then you will need a a wireless pcmia card for your laptop to tx/rx data to/from the router.

whew~ its not an easy undertaking, nor is it cheap. Qtel is also a @)#($*@ About offering tech support should your internet go down, in fact once they learned im not using their craptastic usb modem they just downright refused to assist meany further. Also i just thought i would mention now that with the material that most of these buildings are made of (concrete) your signal will be good up till u hit the very first wall, don't expect a strong signal, or plan ahead and get a very robust router/modem that offers stronger then normal signal.

Just yesterday i was in Qtel asking the same question.

Somehow in my building there's a wireless internet but for the whole building and it's extremely slow.

What they told me in Qtel is that if we want adsl you have to apply for the landline first, then wait cca 1 week till they install it, then you go again to qtel and apply for the internet. And no, you cannot apply for both at the same time :)

if anybody has any other information i would also appreciate it!
