Why lie about nationality on QL?

carlosmarx
By carlosmarx

I am a tad new here but why is it that so many people are obviously lying about their nationality? If all the people claiming to be Qatari here were really nationals then half the nation would be here. I understand the funny names to protect your identity, but why pretend to be another nationality? Is it jealousy, empowerment, bashing, what?

If i'm not mistaken in the beginning when QL was still in its diapers the "nationality" option was "country" obviously it was confusing as to put country of origin or country residing. After the change people could care less to go and change their profile. In any case why should i matter to you. This isnt a dating site that we need to give you 100% accurate details about ourselves. Get over it and focus on whats more important. QUALITY POSTS AND TOPICS TO DISCUSS!

It's pretty obvious by the way you write. I know enough Pakistanis to know the writing style :)

Do you find that most Qatari-Qataris accept passport holders as equal? For example, would a Qatari-Qatari let you marry his daughter? Just curious because I frequently hear Qatari-Qataris refer to Palestinian and Pakistanis with Qatari Passports as not "real" Qataris. No offense, but am wondering about your experience.

Hindsight is a great gift :O)

When your fathers sold the land, they probably had a need for the money and felt they got a reasonable deal..

Don't delve on the past :O)

There is a similar story in my family. My father off loaded some swamp land in Singapore about 65 years ago.... for peanuts....

and now it is one of the poshest areas there!

My grandfather was in the second world war, on his return home after the war, the government did refunded him back 20,000 dollars for the lost and unpaid salary.

He took his money and bought 32 acres of land included mineral rights, ocean and river front rights. After many years of operating those tracts of land, he left the property to my father, upon the death of my grandfather my Dad sold the land for 100,000,00 dollars.

Today, those tracts of land, host a 5 star hotel with a famous 18 gulf course and a great surfing spot. Lets include one huge marina in the river, unfortunatly during this last recession, the owners of those acres sold out to a taiwan chinese firm for the amount of 25 million dollars.

The morale of the story, always think of the future, don't blind side yourself with quick money, knowing that time will give you value too your assets, live a humble life free of indebtness, if you can.

By qatarisun• 21 Aug 2010 11:40
qatarisun

it is not a lie. there is an explanation for it.

in the original version of this web site it was "Country", not "Nationality". Many people indicated the country based on their current location, which is Qatar.

Later "Country" was substituted by "Nationality", but you cannot change the contest..

and why to concern about nationality? how do you use it? create an image of person by her/his post, not by what's written in their "nationality" section..

This was raised some years ago when the requirement was to show "Country" instead of nationality.

Not sure what is asked for now when joining.

Either way there will be those that want to deceive.

Have you seen how many claim to be Afghanis? Particularly in the Classifieds.

By azilana7037• 20 Aug 2010 18:36
azilana7037

duhhh??

Why would nationality of a QL user be of importance? So one could be judgemental about the other when it comes to one's post/comments on the topic? Isn't that being "racist" or what?

Honestly, one's nationality has nothing to do on what one's post here...it's their mental capacity/understanding and reaction to any topic being discussed here.

They see something about a country and think "Duh! I'm in Qatar, innit!"
