Where can I get a house cleaner

ESL Teacher
By ESL Teacher

Hello All!

Alright, I just came back from vacation and I thought "okay I'll just call one of the numerous cleaning companies and get a house-cleaner the day after my arrival". Wow, blissful thinking. I called quite a few companies and women who work independently and I couldn't find anyone. I feel odd complaining...cause I would never have a cleaning service in Canada...but I need one...desperately.

If anyone can refer me to a nice, trustworthy part-time cleaner for my apart. that would be super great.

Thanks much in advance.

P.S. Don't tell me to clean the apartment myself..I know I should and I still won't :o)

I have an Ethiopian maid. Doesn't know English at all but damn good and hardworking. You contact her sister-in-law (or some family relation) and work thru her. The relations name is Sabla on mobile no. 531 2581. She has a quite good command of English and will relay your instructions to this girl. (Her name btw, is Tshaye) I pay her about QR 900 for 4 to 5 hrs per day, twice a week. I am reasonably satisfied with her work. You just have to be a bit patient with the language barrier and deal thru the relative (Sabla) if you have any problems. Try her for a couple of weeks.

Light travels faster than sound. That's why most people appear bright until they open their mouths.

Try this number for a cleaning service:

525-2377

The men who clean, aka "Houseboys" might be ok for general dusting and sweeping but I find they lack any concept of hygiene.

I'd once found one who'd set the toilet brush on the washbasin.

Needless to say he was out pronto.

May I ask you give me those numbers or at least tell where i can get them? I desperately need it. I began hating living in villa because it is too big to clean...:((

Thanks e46M3 I already tried them and no luck. Well I called some random agency and I have a guy here who has taken almost 40 minutes to clean my kitchen counter-tops...well I guess beggars can't be choosers.

goodness, I need to get in on this boom.

There's an ad in the classifieds, try them.

They charge 80 Riyals per visit, ie 20 Riyals per hour 4 hours minimum, even if you just need them for an hour.

Unfortunately many of the independent maids have gone that way too. A couple of years ago they used to charge 20 Riyals per hour, now they want the same as these agencies.

Ask a friend of yours who lives in a compound to check for you. Compound security personnel know the maids who do independent work.

Like everything in Doha, everyone is out to take advantage of the boom. KABOOM!!!
