Whats the soundtrack to your life???

dohagirl
By dohagirl

I've noticed there are a lot of us just sitting here pressing reload on the site, so I decided to start a new forum topic.

Does anyone remember the episode of Ally MacBeal where her therapist (Tracy Ullman I think) tells her her life needs a soundtrack.  I liked that, so from than on I've always picked my music based on my moods, and if it suited me.  Usually Indie rock and folk of the Ani Difranco style.

So what's your favorite music, if your life had a soundtrack what would it be? Pop, Folk, Rock, Rap, Hip Hop, Traditional, Polka (GIASI I know you love the Polka) Heavy Metal???

What?

We can also discuss how pathetic it is that I remember an episode of Ally MacBeal.

I've been listening 2 Enya's "fairytale" on my ipod 2day which is a bit of a random track but I just needed that kind of escapism from reality and nobody does that better than enya. Ive been hooked on her since her lord of the rings soundtrack. One track I disdain though , which is actually killing me with its mediocre lyrics, would have to be Beyonce's supposed summer smash deja vu....I mean ppl have u seen her dance sequence?! I think she was on crack to say the least! and not to mention the part where she says "your sexiness is so appealing"!! lol

err..rhcp's alternative rock, and creed is technically christian rock. i think the only metal band you mentioned was metallica. metal is more like pantera, black sabbath, marilyn manson, rob zombie, etc..

in function's defence your two sentences did seem to be connected. the dot dot dot [...] thing usually insinuates a brief pause before carrying on the same topic.

My bad. I figured someone who had a self professed "love" for heavy metal would have somewhere along the line given a couple examples of said heavy metal for thier life's soundtrack :-| If you saw, I didn't reply until the next day. In that time you only referenced creed, rhcp, metallica and radiohead. I just thought it was comical that's all. And I wasn't saying you can't listen to other types of music. I'm sorry if you took offense to my post, my apologies.

I think you did not read my post properly, so here it is again.

-----------------------------------------------------

love Heavy Metal....

Listening to Creed & Red Hot Chilli Peppers (New Double Album - Stadium Arcade) these days.

All time Fav, Metallica (Black Album) Best album EVER.

-------------------------------------------------------

As you will notice I said "Love heavy metal...." Four full stops and one empty line later "Listening to creed & Red Hot Chilli Peppers (New Double Album - Stadium Arcade) these days."

Now, how did you manage to connect 2 sentences which are separated by four full stops and empty line.

If i like heavy metal that does not mean that I do not listen to other type of music does it ? I listen to rap, hip hop and all sorts (even country music), but have immense liking for heavy metal.

So, please read with patience before replying.

"You lose touch with whats considered normal fashion when you've been here a while."

A couple months ago I was packing for a business trip back to the States. As I folded up one of my new work shirts, my husband tentatively said, "Um... you're not taking that, are you?"

"Why not?" I said, puzzled.

"Um... it's covered in sequins?"

I had to think about it a moment to realize that, in fact, he was right: people don't wear sequins to work back in the States. (At least, not in my line of work!!!)

On the other hand, when I went back to the States last month, I got together with a friend from here. We took one look at each other and burst out laughing: we were both wearing tank tops and tiny shorts, just because we COULD.

Lol, Creed and RHCP heavy metal?!?! Only if you have ultra sensitive ears ;-)

Anyways...we should perhaps make a spin-off thread and ask what's in your playlist at the moment. Or simply "What are you listening to right now?" Then later a recommendation thread.

Since this thread is about a soundtrack to one's life...hmmmm...mine would definitely have to be a compilation. As mentioned, it's mood driven. I've got a driving to/from work mood, a gym mood, cleaning mood etc. A sample of from those moods would be:

Early 90's Grung/Alt. (Nirvana, Soungarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, etc)

Placebo

Tool

Korn

White Stripes

Chaimara

Trivium

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Slipknot

Weezer

Soulfly

Too many to list :-D

My friend is finishing her Masters at the University in Durham. I'd always wanted to go to New Castle (just cause of the beer) so we went for a day. It was a really nice city. The urban redevelopment along the Tyne was really nice.

It actually reminded me a lot of home, the beautiful landscape with industrial bits everywhere. The big angel statue was cool.

By CrazyQ• 1 Aug 2006 23:12
CrazyQ

So do I!!

Parts of it are really beautiful and Newcastle has just been voted one of the ten best party cities in the world. Not sure who by but I wouldn't disagree.

I guess being Canadian the cold wind blowing up the River Tyne was just a bit of wind chill.

Were you just there on holiday or visiting friends?

"Time of your life" by Green Day most definitely on a good day and "I want to break free" by Queen on a bad one....

It was contradictory in a lot of ways, but it was a nice change. I like seeing girls dress in mini skirts again or anything revealing, it reminds me of what I might beable to wear someday, I was actually tempted to buy one before I realized i couldn't wear it.

I liked that whole Durham/New Castle area, it was nice and cold. :) (Not quite as cold as Canada though).

Sorry about the last post. Not what I intended to post.

I grew up near Newcastle. You would have been overdressed in a knee length skirt and anything that covered your shoulders. It is usually freezing there aswell.

Talk about contradictory to Doha.

I am sure you looked pretty normal in London.

Sleeping under a tree in jacket and jeans in the middle of summer is not something I have tried personally but there are plenty of freaky people doing freakier things than that in London.

How long were you there for?

By dohagirl• 1 Aug 2006 22:09
dohagirl

As well as the cool weather, and trees and being able to drink outside. London is a nice city. I went and fell asleep under a tree in Hyde Park for awhile, it was relaxing. Everyone thought I was a freak though, because I was wearing a jacket and jeans and everyone else was in shorts, skirts and tank tops. :)

Its a good venue.

We used to go on a Saturday afternoon in the summer if there was a band on, get an area on the grass, chill out, have a few beers and watch the support acts until the main band came on at night.

One of the cool things I miss about living in London.

Have been listening to quite a lot of the Raconteurs recently though.

Jeez, that is a hard one, you have to go back through your childhood, through you teen years...I think there is a different one for each time.

Childhood: "Indiana Wants Me." can't remember the name of the singer it was a one hit wonder.

Teen years: " When She Looks at Me." Tonic

College Days: "Swan Dive." Ani Difranco

Now: sadly "Your Beautiful" James Blunt and "Blowers Daughter." Damien Rice

the Motown Sound is what I prefer. "Back in the future, 1972 up to 1978". Great music. E.g "Tavares, Haven must be missing an angel" or "The Temptations" and so on. As you perhaps noticed, the older ones of us will know these sounds, but a lot of remixes are still coming out nowerdays.

I have to catch up with my posts,: You have more then 1000!

I don´t think that I will even get 300 posts.

I'll take a dose of classic rock (Led Zep, Floyd, Who, etc), mix it with some heavy rock (Sabbath, Priest Maiden, AC/DC et al.), top it with a bit of 70s & 80s pop (ABBA, A-ha, etc.) and I'm all set.

According to Cat, mine for today is Rebel Yell, by Billy Idol. ("With a Rebel Yell she screamed More More More!"

Usually however I would have to go with Ani Difranco. Though playing in my car right now is Beth Orton. I like my female singers angst filled and heartbroken, even better if they are gay. :)
