I has been always like this more or less. The "older" debates were even 'hotter' and often turned into the fierce battles.

Overheated arguments, scathing fights, intrigues and machinations.. all was there...

Also there was much more hijacking (thanks to the "Old Guard ") :)

Ql is very usefull when it comes to buy and sell but aside from that, QL is full of pretty flowers like this forum section.

QL has always helped me and thousands here in qatar,and i am grateful for the information i used to find here...so if i am surprised by the repeated threads and hijacking thats a crime...ok.

I agree with you. It seems that some Qlers are willing to use bad language when it suits them, but suddenly become righteous when others use it.

I log on to QL regularly and "watch" the banter. Usually its good harmless fun, but can get too serious at times. I tend to agree with darly that some QLers are more concerned with "sticking up" for their friends than having an impartial discussion.

Lastly, I applaud the Filipinos, because they use their own forum when neccessary and particpate in others as required.

QL is billed as site for everyone so I guess bad language should be avoided, though I admit to occasional using it

I guess QL is, like I used it, an excellent wheelbarrow. I used it when I came to Qatar just to find out some things and after a while - masalama.

Now i just came back to bitch a bit against some cyber-nemesis-like individuals :-)

I'm new here. QL gives me a window on Qatar and also lets me hear differing views. Some I agree with, some I don't, but that's the fun..

I see that there is a bit of cliqueiness (spelling?) amongst some members. That again is natural and funny to see..

QL is just a website, so if people have that big a problem with it they can just leave. If enough people do perhaps admin will take notice of how the site is changing (if it is at all).

Who decides on finesse? Who sets the standard? What do you expect from a multi-cultural environment? What do you expect from people that do not master the English language? I just figured the mods don't care otherwise they would edit offensive posts and/or ban offenders.

And it has crept up to the point where it is certainly not a place anyone would consider family friendly.

I repeatedly ask the mods to deal with language on threads and get no response; not to mention the fact that members who have been banned REPEATEDLY have no shame about creating new profiles and the mods don't do anything -- even when their attention is called to the matter.

I really don't get it. Has QL gotten to big for its own good and now has to surrender all civility?

I do have to agree about the lazy idiots posting questions that have been asked over and over, and the poster just can't be assed making the effort to seek out their own answers.

There seems to be a perception that QL has professional users who just sit all day long and write answers to questions like 'send me a list of companies' etc.

I have to say that QL is just the same as it always was. The level of rubbish peaks and troughs, but over time remains more or less the same. I don't have any reason to believe that the quality of the content is on an inevitable slide downhill.

The reason that some threads go on and on (and on and on) is that people find the interesting enough to comment on.

I know I'm biased and picky BUT there are a lot of adverts for people selling animals that aren't being removed.

I like seeing QL used to help people with their life in Qatar, and for informing people about what's going on in Qatar and Qatar related news. Hence I do my best to answer questions asked, or direct people to existing answers, and I also start threads about interesting (imo) Qatar related news.

So if you want to see QL used for something specific, then do what you can to steer it in that direction.

At the end of the day, the content of the site is 100% user-driven - the things that get posted lots and discussed lots are what the users want. If it isn't to your taste, post something that is, or find a site that's better suited to you.

If you're more of a reader than a contributor (which you seem to be) that's fine, but you are in a far weaker position to complain if you aren't an active content generator.

I've never even gone to that site because of what I've heard of the arguements and bickering amongst the members. I prefer this one because there is such a wide variety of topics and I adore the fact that its such a mixture of ALL nationalities on here, with different mindsets and ideas.

Normal, normal, QL also comes in waves, specific nationality bashing wave, Arab women wave, Land Cruiser wave, depression wave, landlord wave..etc

of QL...I really DON'T mind seeing people ask questions that have been asked before. I also don't mind answering them, even if I've answered the same question 10 times before. Newbies might not have realized just how to use this site, so why chew them out when they make an honest mistake? Everyone starts out on the learning curve...let them learn.

As far as obnoxious threads..like other things, they happen. If you don't like them, don't answer on the thread. Its pretty simple.

Some of the ridiculous posts actually make people laugh and when its 52 degrees outside, and you're bored, laughing is the best form of medicine. Lighten up and get a sense of humor..makes life go so much smoother and pleasant!

QL is for entertainment and information. Just because your idea of what is entertaining isn't what theirs is, doesn't make it wrong...just means its not your cup of tea. So why inflict your complaints upon everyone? All that does is make you look like a complainer yourself.

The fact that QL has a lot of members is mainly due to the ridiculous threads and the ridiculous comments as people come here as a form of entertainment, and it's the fact that there are so many members that allows nearly any question about Qatar to be answered.

So if you didn't have the ridiculousness, you wouldn't have the large number of people here able to answer the questions.

But I still stand by my comment about QL always having been full of shyte, right from the start. One of the reasons I took several months to start commenting after arriving in Qatar 3 years ago was because of all the ridiculousness that was going on in the threads. Now I'm a major provoker of (if not source of) that ridiculousness. Not something to be proud, but that's how it is.

genesis - I add forum topics when I find something I think is interesting, and most importantly is related to Qatar. I'm not a fan of threads that have nothing to do with Qatar. Lately I haven't found anything interesting, or if I have it's already been posted by the time I get round to it. Perhaps I'm losing my touch in my old age.

What are you on about, "sliding down this slope", QL has always been like this - a big pile a rubbish with a few gems here and there. It's obviously what people like cos the number of visitors grows on a daily basis.

As for finding answers, I've never had a problem. QL nearly always has an answer to my questions, and if it doesn't someone usually answers my query quick smart. Perhaps you're not using the search box correctly.
