what to do?

gypsy gal
By gypsy gal

I see this man every morning, cleaning the road. I want to give him some money…(not any big amount)but I feel odd to offer money to a person who is not asking for it. I am confused, I kept the money handy in the car.... because of the traffic the car moves very slowly in that area, I can give it to him easily…..but am not able to do it for the past 4 days, and I feel so bad about it. If I see him tomorrow, What to do?

It was on the road in front of the Fire station towards the R/A ..he was there cleaning the narrow platform in the middle, if he miss a step he will be in the road.

Owen it always gives a great feeling if we can be of little help to anyone. Normally I don’t see anything around me, these days the traffic is so slow I was looking all around and saw this guy next to me.

PM I am really touched with your story, very inspiring indeed.

Jackmohan, initially even I thought that way, I thought maybe he will think that he is not a beggar to accept money from others or am degrading his self-esteem etc…..thats why I posted it here for others view. I do tip the packing boys, even if I can carry my two or three bags myself. I don’t think there is anything wrong in tipping. We are not giving to a person who is not doing any job and looking for others to help him; we are giving our small contribution for him to ease his financial burdens. Positive reply from many of you gave me the courage to do it.

This morning when I looked from far I didn’t see him, I felt bad for not giving him yesterday, but he was there. I gave him the envelop and he was in a state of shock, I told him its for you, before he could tell me anything the traffic moved. And I drove off. I coundlt make out from his looks from which country he is from.

I am sorry, i wanted to talk to you, but was just mesmerised by PM's story.

Dont even think twice, just go ahead and do it. You will feel good for days afterwards. I havent given money, but i help poor people whenever i can.

Giving is always a nice feeling. And whatever you give, will come back to you ten times bigger. I am a living example.

Do it, TODAY!

It doesnt take a way a single iota of what you did. You didnt just preach, you set an example. And that, in my book, counts a lot.

I meant every single word i said.

Bravo, Bakh-kher!

You are a good narrator. Stand up and take a bow. You made us all proud.

I dont know what to say that would express what i want to say.

I am touched!

I do it too, help someone and tell them in return help someone else. Sooner or later without realising, it comes back to you. Believe you, me.

But one guy I have stopped tipping and giving money to is our office boy. (Well not totally stopped giving, I give him off and on, on my terms). What got me was, every two, three weeks he would come to me with a sob story effecting his mother or sisters or brothers in Srilanka and needing Qr.300/- which he said he would pay back (Ya, I would take money from them - kill me first). I told him to stop it, I do not want to hear about his mother and family, cause I cannot afford to pay him all the time.

He has also collect debts in the entire office.

I do not hold him to that, I just give when I can. I got expenses too.

what jackmohan probably meant is.""...you give a man a fish , you feed him for a day ...you teach a man to fish ..you feed him for a lifetime.."" aint it jack?

do it right - the first time!

Jackmohan the picking boys that you see in meera get their money that way only.

NOne of them get any salary from their companies. What they get as tips make their day.

gypsy gal dont do that and turn him into a begger...He is getting paid to do a job give him some respect.

If you do everyday he sees you he will extend his arm and you will be expected to pay him.

I m not telling that he doesnt need the money, nither does you giving money one day will change his life.

If you want to help then send money to your relatives who need it for their children's education. I believe each one of us can find one such relative. This could change his life.

At Al-Meera, Dafna, I see so many Sri Lankans & Indian, packing-boys going the extra mile, pushing the cart, loading the groceries, and after checking-out pushing the cart up to the car, loading the groceries onto the vehicle (only for a tip-paying customer, usually arab ladies). This they wouldnt do in their own country. Nor would they do it if they did not get tips.

Do you call it (tipping) improving their lives or spoiling their character?

Am doing great. Alive and kicking!

Btw, forgot to mention in my previous post, good thought. Thats why you've been my # 1 gal on QL. LOL. But a little disappointed in you, about this thread, didn't expect you to be such a show off! Hehehe.

Nopes, haven't got the tickets for the show yet. I wonder if such exhorbitant prices are worth it? For Qrs. 150, I think they're giving you seats in 2nd gallery. Might be a good idea to take binoculars along.

there is saying it's better to give than to receive, you are willing to give though not that big amount but when it came from you heart, you fell like you win the whole world, what a good heart and a good samaritan of you, don't think twice, give it to him if you know he deserves to receive the money. And in return god will give more than what you gave to somebody. We in fact, if not of them cleaning the road or our environment here in qatar, maybe qatar is a big mess. So to those working off the road, i am proud of them for doing there job. Small or big amount can make them happy because they know someone's thinking of them including you gypsy.

god bless you
