no you do not. however, they do have the occasional promotion in association with cell phone distributors in which they offer both the card and cell at a reasonable price (usualy around 300 QR).

When you get a Prepaid Plan from Qtel, is there an option to get a low end phone as well? or do i have to purchase the phone elsewhere?

Wow! That's expensive! Probably because it's a monopoly.

Well, seeing that you're a Filipino like myself, let me make a suggestion.

If the reason why you want to have a mobile phone with you is to keep in touch with your family back home, you can just get a Smart SIM card and activate the Roaming function (better than Globe in terms of roaming availability and ease of use, and my sister in Riyadh claims it's easier to find prepaid cards).

SMS - PhP 9.00 or QR 0.65

Voice Call - $0.40/minute or roughly PhP 20.00/minute or

QR 1.45

It's probably not much different from the cost of Qtel, but the benefits will be felt by your family in the Philippines, as they are only charged P1.00 if they reply to your text, however, international rates apply if they call you.

At least you don't have to pay for anything else, simply purchase the SIM card before you leave, I think that's about PhP 150.00 or QR 10.72, compared to all the other things you have to pay for as listed below by our other good friends.

Now, if your reason is to be within reach anytime in Doha by you friends there, I guess you don't have much of a choice, you really have to go for Qtel.

Prepaid lines are either 200 - 300 QR depending on the plan, and you usually get 50 - 100 QR worth of credit and either 60 - 360 days validity (extendable of course). During promotions the price is usually slashed to 100 - 150 QR.

Local calls cost 0.55 QR per minute at all times

Int'l cost IDD rate + 0.55 QR per minute

Local SMS: 0.40 QR

Int'l SMS: 0.60 QR

Local MMS: 0.90 QR - 1.20 QR

Int'l MMS: 1.35 QR - 1.80 QR

Mobile Internet: 10 QR for each 1 MB

Postpaid lines cost 250 QR connection fees (paid once) and roughly 65 QR per month for rental

Local Calls: 0.35 QR (peak rate) - 0.30 QR (off-peak rate)

Int'l Calls: IDD rate + local call rate per minute

Local SMS: 0.30 QR (peak rate) - 0.20 QR (off-peak rate)

Int'l SMS: 0.60 QR (fixed rate)

MMS & Mobile Internet rates: same as prepaid

hope that helps

Just one network here, QTel. You can get a prepaid card for 200 or 300 Riyals, that's $55-82.
