Brave or hypocrites or a racist?

Since I first logged onto QL, I have noticed that a lot on non-Muslims QLers who are here in the Gulf always mock the Muslims and make fun of their religion.

You must be brave to come here in this region and work and live among the majority of Muslims here. And put up with their way of living.

Or you must be a very good hypocrite.

Why did you come here? Is it because the jobless queue in your country is too long? Is it because your country cannot help you? You could have gone elsewhere in a country where you could live your normal life. Say like in some African countries. Why here?

I agree with freedom of speech and thoughts, and that is why I am making that comment, but to ridicule a people or their faith is hitting below the belt. Some sarcastic remarks I have seen here are really shocking and coming some kind of inner hate.

Or are some of you a Racist. We all are racist in a way. But it is the degree of how you show it that is the problem.

Please don't insult anyone else religion or faith in this forum. It does not befit your intelligence.

I was guilty of this when I first arrived. HOWEVER, I now realize that I am lucky to be in this country doing what I am doing. I am a guest here and do my best to respect the culture and locals.

*I still get more dirty looks than friendly looks though. :)

i agree, britain is not so bad as it is portrayed, that's why i mentioned London...i guess if britain had a strict regime as here, in terms of social order, then london and other main cities would have been a good and safe place to live in.

We came to Qatar because hubby was specifically asked to help out with a new organization. The money is nice but certainly not why we came over. As far as living within a majority of Muslims..never really thought about it in the sense of being scared because people are people, regardless of what religion they are. My mother was terrified that I was going to get abducted, killed, blown up, whatever, but we had no qualms on that. The most misgivings I personally had, is how much I would miss my two boys who are back home.

For the most part there isn't really mockery going on here on QL but what is happening is that each region has its own sense of humor and what they think is funny. For example...Americans tend to poke fun at themselves, Brits tend to be sarcastic and poke fun in a good hearted way, at others, Canadians HAVE no sense of humor (ok you Canucks!...I'm just teasing!!) Things on here when written can take a wrong turn when people are very thin skinned and take things personally instead of the way they are meant. That's the problem with forums and even chat rooms because no one can see the smile on your face or hear the inflection in your voice.

Quite honestly speaking, if everyone would just take a much lighter hearted view of their ownselves, things wouldn't be in such a wreck on here at times.

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Its true that This a very safe place for the families , especially the kids..My own kids spent their early years in Saudi and benefitted a lot from the experience. However, the UK is not as bad as its portrayed..

ignorant people's questions about your religion and even their mockery of it, there will be more understanding and appreciation in the end,... chances are you might even produce a convert out of it...

The issue is over! We can settle things for tomorrow after all the things we've learned from that incident...

And again, i-moody, it still is perception. You just deny it.

THANK YOU FOR UR COMMENTS...HEERO, IT IS NOT A PERCEPTION...EVEN AS A PIECE OF HUMOR, IT IS NOT NICE AND INTELLECTUAL.

BRIT EXPATS, I ADMIRE UR HONESTY BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU I HAVE ALWAYS LIKE YOUR FAIR AND BALANCED COMMENT. I AM HERE FOR MY KIDS...TO MINIMISE THE CHANCE OF THEM BEING STABBED ONE DAY OR BULLIED AT SCHOOL OR MY DAUGHTER BEING SEXUALLY MOLESTED EITHER AT SCHOOL OR ON THE STREETS OF LONDON. I AM ALSO HERE TO FEEL FREE OF FEAR OF BEING ATTACKED ON THE STREETS OR AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS.

MANY THANKS GUYS FOR UR FAIR COMMENTS.

Probably 50% of all world problems are caused by religion (but we all know 72.6% of statistics are nonsense).

As such, I would love to see it (the religious issue, not the statistical one) debated as often as possible until people understand that if you post some feel good story in an open forum and you attach your brand of religion to it, you will get hammered.

It is probably a Muslim's perception to think that having a small dose of humor means having ridiculed or mocked the religion in whole.

Some people make things a little too direct to the point. Do you know that there is a better chance of testing one's faith if one can accept or go along with a little smile rather than think it is a mockery? People easily contradict a small piece of common sense and does not use that much of knowledge given to them by God Almighty...

I agree fully. I would ask that you people stop sending me private messages belittling His Holiness TFSM.
