Stupid way to die .

Actor playing gunman shot dead in PhilippinesBritish film shoot turns fatal after masked Filipino actor fails to stop for village watchman

An actor playing a masked gunman in a British film has been shot dead by a village watchman in the central Philippines.

Police in Cebu said Eddie Cuizon, a watchman, tried to accost Kirk Abella, who was wearing a ski mask and carrying a toy gun, and shot him late on Saturday just as the actor was directed to speed away on a motorcycle.

Community police chief Alexis Relado said the 32-year-old Filipino actor was working on Going Somewhere, a film by British director Alan Lyddiard.

Cuizon, who faces charges of homicide and violation of a gun ban, claims he was only responding to the reported presence of armed men.

Lack of planning, prior notification, setting boundaries on site for filming and defining roles and responsibilites of the personnel involved in film shooting costituted to the detriment of an innocent life!

stop posting!. Error are committed averywhere. It's just a matter who and how it is committed. In this particular incident, somehow, somewhere there was a miscue so the accident happened. It was just tragic because of a lost of life. But don't blame the watchman totally, As the news said, there were some situations created prone to such unwanted action!

Let it be proven in proper forum (court).

Prior to any film shooting there will be permits obtained and then information will be disseminated.

There is also rules for engagement, you just don't simply fire a bullet to somebody. I don't think tanod is allowed to carry a gun.

Hmm, so the company that conducted the filming did not inform the people in the area or cordoned off the area where this film was to be shot?

Wow, that man should be awarded that being a filipino man he was working & not getting drunk on his wife's salary, i am not trying to take shots at filipinos but whats up with the men over there? A, they don't like to work. B, they think they are so macho, and C, having a gun multiplies the 'B' by 10. Same stupidity happened with the hostage attack couple months back.

CEBU CITY — An action-packed scene for an international indie film turned deadly when one of the actors was shot dead by a responding tanod who claimed he thought that the scene was for real.

The scene called for local actor Kirk Abella, 32, to dress as a bonnet-wearing gunman riding on a motorcycle, acting like a vigilante killer, who was going after another character on JC Zamora Street, Barangay Parian.

When the director shouted "action," Abella immediately did his part. He went down the motorcycle and pulled his plastic gun to shoot his victim. But a gunshot stole the scene and Abella fell into the concrete pavement.

Abella was shot by village watchman Edgar Cuizon, 51, who was armed with a caliber .357 gun. The actor was hit on the back and was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Cuizon, who expressed shocked to learn that it was a movie shooting, said he was informed that a motorcycle-riding gunman was seen on the area, prompting him to immediately respond. It was on the same street that three people died on drive-by shooting last year.

"I thought he was going to shoot the man on the road so I fired at him first," said Cuizon. He claimed to have no knowledge that a movie shooting was being conducted on the area.

But Chief Insp. Alexis Relado, chief of Parian Police Station, said all barangay tanods in the area were already informed before hand about the filming of a movie.

The film being shot is entitled "Going Somewhere." It is a project of Alan Lyddiard Film based in London, United Kingdom.

so the watchman did accosted the "suspects" and when they run, he fired at them.

Let him prove his guilt or innocence once the proper investigation and case begin!

Hey harry from where did you get this wrong information???? i was watching news daily and never heard about this stupid rumors.

You should be careful on whatever you are saying particularly if you dont have basis and its a false information.

Your friends story is just as tragic..how terrible for the mom! Guess ultimately in this case its upto the court of law to make their rulings based on evidence and justice. =(

"just as the actor was directed to speed away on a motorcycle"

He was speeding away on a motorcycle, not walking around pointing a gun at people. If he was speeding away, what threat did he pose?

"Cuizon, who faces charges of homicide" tells me that the police think the killing was unjustified.

But lets leave that to the court to decide.

By flor1212• 1 Nov 2010 14:17
flor1212

that the gun held by the actor is a fake one! Let him prove his innocence or guilt in a proper court!

according to one newspaper in our country, the shooter will be charged with homicide

would you even asked without drawing your gun? I have a very close friend before (a childhood friend) who became a policeman and one day, he was about to enter their house after service, he saw a man running with a gun, he just shouted "what" and the man shoot him with a 45. He died in the arms of his mother!

What a terrible but unpredictable tragedy..so horrible! But why violation of gun ban? did the watchman break the law by thus firing the way he did? if so he most certainly deserves to be prosecuted..maybe fined.

By timebandit• 1 Nov 2010 14:10
timebandit

Even if he was allowed to carry a gun, I have a feeling this was a shoot first ask questions later kind of a guy. I hope the justice system does it's job properly in this case, and decides correctly if he was in fear for his life, or just happy to finally get a chance to shoot someone. They will know better than me.

before and after the actual election, gun ban is imposed. For anybody to get an exception, they have to apply for one in COMELEC or Commission on Election. If approved, there are certain provisions for carrying it outside residence.

The watchman involved was not reported to have an exception so maybe he is charged with violation of the gun ban rule!

By somwerNdmiddle• 1 Nov 2010 14:07

The organizing committee of the shooting should be held liable for this death and to be punished. Watchman should get award for doing so, as he was acting as terrorist or decoit.

Were the other cast and crew along with cameras and all hiding? Why couldn't the watchman figure out that it was just a film shooting?
