Traffic Update - QR200 fine for spitting

rMs_000
By rMs_000

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning intends to impose a fine of QR200 on anyone found spitting on roads and side streets, Arabic daily Arrayah yesterday said.
The director of public relations at the ministry Omar al-Yafee said the penalty for spitting on public roads was QR200 and not QR500. Al-Yafee said an awareness campaign has been launched to inform the public about the services rendered by the municipal affairs ministry “and to tell people also about violations that expose them to fines”.

Oh so that's why it smells like crap randomly in some places.

The fines here are quite expensive, they need to focus more on getting a new/real police force, and start getting some order installed on the roads. Sick of people doing crazy sh*t like cutting in front of you from the inside lane of the round about to get off when your in the middle lane... It's like, buddy, do you want to die?

How much will you fine yourself for neglecting a burst drainage pipe and allowing faeces to float in a puddle on a main street for 2 days? And then allowing it to happen again within a few days. And again within a year at a different location.... and again yesterday.....

Maybe those spitters are just expressing their disgust!!!

By taliesin• 17 Mar 2009 21:11

I HATE it, and if I catch anyone doing it they get told in no uncertain terms how disgusting they are.

is bad but I don't think it's a bad as "honking" in public.

For the uninitiated honking is blowing the nose directly onto the floor.

on my way home this evening while waiting at a traffic signal a policeman in a pathfinder opened his door and guess what...? right!...so who's gonna apprehend him?

By deedee• 17 Mar 2009 12:34

Could you tell what they were writing them for? I have seen police patrols stop all cars at intersections to check for seatbealt usage. And once, just once, I actually saw a police cruiser pull over a guy that had passed a whole bunch of people on the right side soft shoulder. The one and only time I have seen someone stopped for a moving violation (in 5+years). I cheered the policeman as I went by and he smiled brightly at me.

It's disgusting to see drivers opening the doors, spitting and then shutting off. Total loss of civic sense and discipline!

I see what you mean UKEng. I wouldn't worry about it though. I'm sure the police inform people of what they need to do when they issue them the fine.

Thats why they purchased Lamborghini, now its clear for me, now they can chase people spitting and spatting on roads and will be easy to collect fines then..

Good Thinking.

Guess one will not be able to leave the country until he/she has paid the fine just like the fines for related to reckless driving..

Ok tallg, back in the UK we have ASBO (Anti Social Behavior Order). Which is giving by Community police or by the Police it self for

Graffiti – which can on its own make even the tidiest urban spaces look squalid

Abusive and intimidating language, too often directed at minorities

Excessive noise, particularly late at night

Fouling the street with litter

Brunken behaviour in the streets, and the mess it creates

Dealing drugs, with all the problems to which it gives.

The fine for ASBO is collected by the Council offices the same place where one pay fine for Penalty charge for wrongful parking.

Here I am not sure which department will enforce it and collect the fine.. I am sure they have decided already would be good for the public awareness, to post the places where to pay if one is caught spitting..

My question is how they enforce this and how will they collect the fines? At the traffic police station or at the Muncipality offices?

Gulf times shows both spitting in Public and from your vehicle.

fining a Driver I can undestand they will just add it to your Istamara renewal. But fining members of the public how will they enforce that and where and how will one need to pay if found guilty or caught spitting..

Guess like weeing every one will do it in privately.

Was watching Man U getting thrashed by Liverpool over the weekend. When I noticed how much spitting the players were doing through the match.. Are there gonna enforce Al Sadd players also?

I agree with you chum...haven't a clue and would like a list of what they are...

please please i hope they enforce the spitting fine...starting at my compound!!!

Andre you sound like my compound manager.... get informed spitting is like weeing in public...and worse in a country where it doesn't rain...how can it evaporate on tarmac? its disgusting and more importantly a public health hazard that spreads stuff like TB.

By tallg• 17 Mar 2009 09:00
tallg

andre - the police see someone spit, they pull him over, they fine him. What's complicated about that? It's the exact same process for if they see someone speeding, or whatever.

Of course I'm assuming the police will actually bother to do this, but that's a different matter.

As for your second point, do a search on QL for the dangers of spitting and you'll see why it's a problem.

Is it just me, or are the signs they put up as part of these "awareness campaigns" way to complicated and impossible to make out as you drive past them?

LOL, I doubt anyone will ever be fined. As usual they continue to pass laws without ever intending to enforce them.
