Saw a traffic cop at an intersection this morning jotting down registration numbers of vehicles blocking the intersection, caught a lot of them actually. YAY!

Fubar ...... Police has to be friendly while tackling the respectable public in these situations where people just need to be pointed their mistakes and they promise to improve with passage of time ..... there is absolutely no reason for thinking to punish any fellow human .....

I just hope that traffic cops continue to man intersections and catch/fine all traffic violators. There are still a lot of violations happening out there every single time that continue to pose dangers to everyone.

A kind and forgiving heart for people who recklessly and intentionally endanger the lives of other motorists and pedestrians?

Tell that to the families and friends of the hundreds of people who die needlessly in totally preventable traffic collisions each year.

That is possibly the stupidest thing I have ever, ever read on Qatar Living.

Fubar, Police has to be kind & forgiving at heart with the citizens.

Wow rewards to correct people. So hitting a car with repairable damages QR500/- reward. With irrepairable damage QR1000 and when you kill one passenger too: QR5000, with every additional person killed QR5000 per head. Great. I must buy a tank and let losse on the streets with an evening flight ticket in hand or may be even a Hummer with some touch up can do. I wouldnt need to work anymore after I have finished collecting my rewards running wild on all the streets and half the population under my wheels. Very innovative indeed!!!

Happy, For sureshot results .... The violator should be given a traffic control duty along side the same cop by whom he / she was caught and paid cash equal to his / her one day's double wages ..... after 8 hrs ... you will get a very responsible driver & a law abiding citizen ....

@Molten for "He, who does mistake needs to be treated very gently & softly"

I would have to disagree with you, those mistakes which could possibly cost life/lives should be treated gently and softly.

For your information traffic violation is not a mistake often.. it is EGO, It is pleasuring ones self without caring about other's lives and respect...

It's a bit early in the year for April fools jokes... Traffic police in Doha actually attempting to punish drivers for breaking the law? Never!!

I can only imagine how much better the driving experience in Qatar would be if rules were actually enforced and erring driver actually punished. People might actually follow the rules if they knew they couldn't get away with their childish antics.

If an idiot hits me and I get killed how am I gonna handle him gently and softly. Instead let him/her go to hell...I care a damn.

I remember years ago, Traffic violators vehicle numbers used to be published in the News Papers. That should come into force again.

It is not only the locals that break the rules, but idiots follow. And if you consider the local population, it is a fraction of the expat. hence the stream of vehicle are majority expat.

I hasten to add, I am sure violations happen all over the world and I am sure I commit some violations too. I live and work in Qatar and treasure my life, hence the comment and feed.

I guess most of us rule following drivers run the risk of injury etc due bad driving by others and the risk has increased due to increase in no. of vehicles on the roads. Its high time some serious action is taken by the cops irrespective of who it is and then give wide publicity to their actions so that the to be offenders or the ones who have escaped so far would think thrice before attempting that again. The best option could be if the person is caught breaking the rule, stop him there and lash him in front of the public followed by other actions as are deemed fit and post the persons picture being lashed in the print media. And if the person repeats it, and is an expat, without second thought deport him within 7 days to cause havoc there where he came from. Let it seriously pinch some to stop others and make us safe on the roads. I am too afraid to drive these days as it has really become too crazy out there.

The answer is simple. Stop them. Impound and scrap their cars. Period!

normad_08, try and ask them to stand since 6am. They will get a lot of revenue

@HGL, you should see the stream at 6am, sometime even during off days, people are so used to taking the cut that even without traffic, may just cut. I am worried, I will bang someone or someone will bang me due to their fault of taking an illegal left turn. And some people are so brazen enough to chat on the phone and ignore the rest, there are also some many without seat belts.

I thought, there was a spot fine of Qr.100.00 a few years back for not wearing seat belts or being on the phone. I hope the police take this seriously.

Monkey see Monkey do, it used to be local or lookalike locals doing the illegal acts, but now, everyone seems to have joined the bandwagon.

We really should not cross an intersection if the traffic on the other side is jammed otherwise it will result in a gridlock and inconvenience everyone. Most motorists here ignore this and usually get mad if a vehicle ahead of them stops to wait until the intersection is cleared.

The weather helps make it bearable for them traffic cops to stand for long hours in the streets doing what they're supposed to do...summer time is another story.

I wish cops also stand at Ramada signal & Al Sadd Signal between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM to check the cars taking left turn from the lanes meant for traffic going straight or the ones who intend to turn left blocking the lanes for straight going traffic by jumping the queues. And then so many of them talking on phones and in the process driving at less than 50kmph in the fast lane oblivious to the vehicles behind and no amount of horn or flashing makes them move (an issue which was even reported twice in GT in last few days).
