"These are a few of my favourite things" Sing it! Sing it!
Gotta love Julie Andrews!
Although she was 72 on 1st October this year, I am reliably informed that, to commemorate her 69th birthday, she made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favourite Things" from the legendary movie "Sound Of Music." Here are the actual lyrics she used:
LET ME HEAR YOU OLDIES, AND MEMBERS OF THE SOUND OF MUSIC 'CULT'
SING ALONG!! :D
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things.
When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.
When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.
(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted
over four minutes and repeated encores.)
How many of you were singing it in your head?
I know I was. :D
thanks for that link anyways...that's lame..i mean those surgeons damaging her singing career..just like that?!...money can't cover what she lost..her voice and ability to sing..must be difficult for her since then...
so, i read from that blog that she only narrated the lines above?..how heart breaking that would be..:(

I think it's actually an urban legend. My brother e-mailed it to me a couple of days ago and I thought it amusing enough to post in QL.
However, when I checked out the internet I saw various references to it just being a myth. This link, below, is probably nearest the truth since she did, of course, have throat surgery some years ago and hasn't really been able to sing as she used to since :o(
Interesting blog though:

In fact, I still have that VHS tapes of her movies like MARY POPPINS & SOUND OF MUSIC amongst my collection back home. I even recorded and had it in CD all the songs from both movies...
But I didn't realize that she was that old. Imagine, Julie Andrews at 69? She didn't look that old in the movie "The Princess diary".
Thanks, Jauntie...bring back memories too.

In 2001, Elton John and 40 of his friends dressed up as nuns to ‘sing-a-long with Julie’. Elton had hired the smash hit show Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music for a private party to celebrate boyfriend David Furnish’s birthday.
After a celebratory lunch at the Ivy, the party of 40 donned habits and tuned their vocal chords to sing-a-long with the smash hit show Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music. Celebrity faces spotted under their wimples included Elton John and boyfriend David, Lulu, Janet Street Porter, Neil Tennant of The Pet Shop Boys, Hugh Grant and Joan Collins.
for this musical amongst the gay population. They turn up in their droves where ever The Sound of Music is being shown AND dress the part also!
You gotta love it :D I believe our Jules is quite tickled by all the attention.

von Trapp family settled after fleeing Germany. The had a house made to look like a German cottage and was at the top of a mountain..it was lovely..looked just LIKE Salzburg...
I loved Mary Poppins! Wish I had that umbrella that flies, and that bag of evertyhing...man I could put my bed in that bag and just pull it out when I felt sleepy lol.
This summer I went to Salzburg, where "the sound of music" was shot, beautiful! I remember my grandparents made me watch "the sound of music" with them cause it was their fav, and now it's one of my old time favorites :-)
my favorite actresses...what a lovely voice she has!! Mary Poppins...the sound of Music...LOVE 'EM!!
Trust you to bring up with the best random stuff around.
Really good. One more reason to love that woman. How many times have i wished i had a governess like her? But then thats fine, i always had my parents to compensate, hehe.
