DJ Concerts are as good as bringing mainstream artists, as the DJ is just showing off his skills and talents too, just as an artist would. If your gona pay 150 to 300Qr or even more to see a mainstream artist but your stingy with goin to a DJ Party for 80Qr or 100Qr.It also an oppurtunity to listen to various artists and different songs throught the DJ, plus you get to have a hands-on experience of mixing, scratching etc. Ofcourse everyone is obliged to their own opinion and taste, But to say that all DJ Concerts are crap is just too much, that is like an insult to all DJ's acorss the world. DJ's are the reason we have music, they are the medium between the artist and the public. Mix tape Djs,Radio Djs etc. are all a very important aspect of the music world.

I guess the DJ Concerts are pretty expensive and a pure waste of time and energy... Bringing mainstream artists and better organising shows on a yearly/ quarterly basis would be a much feasible solution....

DJ Parties are simply waste of money.....

ngourlay please, even though you do have a point about tappng into new markets, but bringing mainstream artists here is also a new market as this type of stuff rarely happens in doha. And "Game" went over 5 times platinum for his 1st album, i think that shows you that he has enough fans here for him to come over. and for the whole Hip Hop & RnB popularity will always beat any type of music in any club scene and ofcourse lets not forget techno, electro and house which also rule a large piece of the cake of the clubbing scene.

I agree the Sean Paul concert was chaos, bad managment and no precautions were taken, but hopefully this will be a better and much more enjoyable experience, And Disposbale Income? cmon this is doha, is anyone here broke? apart from the small minority.Plus the amount of youth in doha is large,

And Yea master jay keep me posted asap..

Peace

How was the recent global Djs concert? I guess the reviews werent that popular.. Anyways more of fresh punjabi concerts and fresh genre music where there are less drunkards and smokers and the rules are there... Anyways the whole DJ stuff is overhyped out here..

Though I appreciate the music nowadays (Shakira, Sean Paul, all those boy bands and the rest), I would look forward to (and spend for) the likes of Nora Jones, Phil Collins, Michael Buble etc.

It doesnt mean mainstream youth, 50 cent & shakira are used as an example only, it can be anyone.

I see your point and they will be working for that also & you should see something in May or June for the older generation, fingers x.

MILA> It will be impossible to bring HUGE names like u2 & madonna as they charge MILLIONS per show.

thanks for the comments...

I guess from the artists mentioned in the survey this means mainstream youth. Given the demographics in Qatar, you might be more successful aiming your concerts at 35-50-year-old western expats rather than the youth market.

They have disposable income and there's lots of them.

The Sean-Paul concert was a disaster, despite blanket publicity. Jazz singers, classical music, and old-duffer bands are going to be more popular than R&B or Hip-Hop. Try some middle-of-the-road artists who no one really thinks are that great, but you'd probably go and see if they were in town - Norah Jones, Katie Melua, Dido, etc.

...

Sorry. This sounds a bit too negative. I'm sure that there's tons of kids who want to go to see a mainstream artist. I just meant to say that there's probably an untapped opportunity in the older age range.
