State run schools

Hi,

My wife and I are looking for a school for our son. Could anyone give us some advice on wether we should wait for a space at a private English school or put him in to one of the state run schools? Is there a big difference in the curriculum? Do many western children go to the state schools?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
