Standards of Health and Safety dangerous to all in Doha

Obviously most readers' initial thoughts will be...oh no, not another expat newbie who is expecting the same standards of life as back home!

This is not going to be a rant as I have been used to living in various countries in the middle east for over 10 years.

The point being.....NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED!!! Apart from recent years surge in oil prices meaning there are a few more buildings, some of them quite remarkable eg La Cigale and 4 seasons. But by and large, the gulf is still full of inexperienced, unqualified, cowboy builders. None of them actually from the gulf!!

A word of advice. In Doha if you are renting from SULAIMAN ABDUL KHALI AL BANNAI get out of the building. Usual hallmarks of his buildings are the same as 95% of others. Awful parking, disastrous cheap materials used, windows and doors not fitting, lack of a/c's, BUT, all this aside he does have a nice line in narcissism. He likes to install plaster decorative boards with his name all over it in calligraphy all over the windows of the buildings.

So far, since one of his "apparently numerous" (but arabs will exaggerate about anything) buildings has been "finished" there has been the following:-

Constant drilling / hammering / sawing from 06.30am until 19.00 for the last 6 months. (but wait, i hear you say. Qatar is booming. How could this be? Surely they are quick, efficient and finish jobs well...)

Undrilling / unhammering / unsawing as above as mistakes are often regularly made, and then the process starts again.

In an already non existent parking area, one slot has been concreted up to form an extension to a ground floor shop

A car has had concrete globs splashed all over it

Another car has had scratches all over it from wood being moved

Scaffolding has been put up to erect these ego maniacal plaster boards over each window which is rarely attached securely meaning material drops onto balconies and below

Of course not one iota of communication at any time between what the landlord is doing and his existing tenants.

The list goes on and i'm sure people have a lot to add. Currently we are in 7th month and its been a constant barrage of noise, damage to property, and total lack of responsibility and ownership by whoever is doing the work.
Starting at 07.30 on fridays is too much. Its like a secret clan. 10 nationalities of immigrants, none of which speak english or arabic and no sign of who these random builders are so you can find out who is directing this circus. You can't even find out who the company is.

There seems to be no respite, so if anyone can help as my work and social life are deteriorating by the day. If i wanted to sign up for no sleep and loud noises i would have been in iraq by now....

why the title you chose for this posting?? I mean your title has nothing to do with health and safety issues..its more about noise and irritants due to your landlord...as is your other post directly after it.
