Sony Internet HDTV’s unveiled
We’ve been following the development of Google TV since the official launch back in May and then last week with news on some of the partnerships Google TV has made for content. We told how the venture was in collaboration with Logitech to supply the companion box, and Sony who would be producing Google TV devices such as HDTV’s and Blu-ray players with built-in Google TV.
Sony has now announced its initial lineup of these devices with a range of Internet-enabled TV’s with Google TV software according to Ben Parr over on Mashable. The Internet HDTV’s will be available in four screen sizes, 24-inch, 32-inch, 40-inch and 46-inch and with the exception of the 24-inch will have 1080p edge-lit LED screens. All will have 4 USB ports, Wi-Fi capabilities and also 4 HDMI inputs.
The cheapest model will be $599, up to $1,399 for the 46-inch version. Having Google TV will give a whole new dimension to surfing the web or simply watching TV as now it will be possible to do both simultaneously with surfing powered by Google Chrome and apps from Android. The Internet TV software will also give users online services such as Twitter, Netflix, YouTube and Hulu. It has to be said though that the TV remote control may raise some eyebrows due to its myriad of buttons, but that said, it seems likely that soon Google TV will be popular in many homes.
The new Sony TV’s are out this weekend, on Saturday from SonyStyle.com or on Sunday from Best Buy so there’s not long to wait to see if this new innovation from Google will take off.
