I saw the title of this thread and, although I now see I got the wrong end of the stick, I couldn't resist sharing a little story with you all, if that's ok, - a joke against myself really.
I was immediately reminded of how much I wished to 'socialise' with my Chinese neighbours in Hong Kong and so I tried to find an English to Chinese phrase book which was easy to use.
Eventually I found one ... oh my! It was called: 'MAKING OUT IN CHINESE'. Yeah yeah ok, so call me stoopid, duh. I didn't open it until I got home and only then did I realise it wasn't quite what I wanted lol
Oh yes, I discovered lots of 'simple to say phrases', but I decided NOT to try them on my elderly neighbour, Mrs Tang, since I doubt very much she would have welcomed my amourous and very direct chat-up lines (let alone go to bed with me) even if I WAS able to ask her in perfect Mandarin)!
The joys of international travel :o)

Why give this person a hard time when there are different nationality groups here in QL Groups:
Filipino expats in Qatar;
From the Asian sub-continent;
Malaysians in Qatar;
South Africans in Qatar;
The British Club in Qatar.
If you all want your own nationality groups, you can't criticise this person for wanting to connect with some Chinese.
there arent any Buddhist countries around for the chinese to invade here really isnt it!!

Sorry for that, of course I would like to offer my friendship and accept it from all cultural groups. Pls forgive me for my oversight on this. :)

Don't be so picky with your offer of friendship but I know where you're coming from. First time in Qatar so you just want to move amongst your people.
