Serious Buyers Only...

Just been browsing the classifieds and there are numerous which say "Serious Buyers Only"..

Now what does that really mean ?
How does the seller know whether I'm a serious buyer or not ?
Is it an afront to not-s-serious-buyers ?

some just are a hindrance to these sales. they call up and say they will be coming to buy the item and fail to turn up.

I’m one of them who says that...

In fact, I have recently posted an Ad and clearly mentioned "Serious Buyers Only...".

Few minutes later received a text offering a way below the actual price.

I have replied, "You cannot be serious...?", “I am serious and added 500QR to his offer..!!!” amazingly he replied back.

And that is why we say: "Only Serious Buyers please? Not a "time wasters"....

rock,

and why to go to showrooms and to waste THIRE time? in this case THEY would call you "not serious buyer". For the BUYER there is no difference WHERE to check the product, and since buyer is NOT intending to buy it from showroom, why he has to go to showroom?

You are again talking from the seller's perspective. Ya'ani, go check wherever you want, get all the information about MY product without bothering ME, and then just drop by MY place and hand over money to ME.

Eh?? and why the buyer has to go THIS way? rather than going straight to the seller, to see HIS car (not the one in showroom), to see the CONDITION of this car(it might be quite different from the one in showroom), to ask SELLER the questions about the car.. WHY buyer has to go to showroom to do all these things there, and then to do the same things AGAIN with the seller? NO ONE would buy a car without seeing it, trying to drive it, checking the technical condition! Sometimes buyer is ready to buy the car, then he takes it to mechanical check, and it comes out that the car has some technical issues. Buyer breaks the deal. So would you also call him "not serious"??

Sellers just don't want to spend any time and efforts for selling their products. Well, they HAVE TO, if they want to sell!

qatarisun, i agree with you, it's relative in the end.

in that particular case the reason for seller complaining was that he expected that someone buying a car would initially shortlist the models he is interested in by checking them out in the show room and get enough info about the vehicle before calling up used cars sellers and taking appointments. I would do that. Why waste the seller time when i can go to the showroom and check out the size :)

Xena, it is impossible.

First of all, it is cultural matter to ask for discount. There is no deal if there is no discount, no matter how low the initial price is and how small is the discount (sometimes even 1% will do), it is matter of satisfaction.

Second, sometimes it is in the interest of seller. Let's say, he WISH to sell the item for QAR 1000. But there are no buyers for such price. So the seller doesn't mind to lower the price just to get rid of the item.

it is normal "souq" bargain, nothing wrong with that.

Whoever put "serious buyers only" show their impatience to sell the item fast and easy, which is not always possible.

To me it reminds those who is posting while looking for the job: "Please reply urgently, as I NEED A JOB URGENTLY" ! Like who cares that you need it urgently? And why do you think that if YOU need a job urgently, everybody is rushing to offer it to you.

I find "serious buyers only" kind of same silly thing.

There is no such term like "serious buyer". On one hand, even billionaires bargain and look for the better deal!

On the other hand, sometimes "not seriously" looking buyer can spend huge amount of money . (remember "Pretty woman"? how she entered very expensive shop, and sales ladies didn't even want to serve her, so she simply walked into the next store and spent there good few thousands of bucks)

If one isn't patient enough to sell, let some agent to do so for the commissions. what's the problem?

Also i think, since people keep calling for the same item many days, and asking for the discount, it means that item is overpriced. In this case the seller is looking not for "serious" buyer, but for "idiot- buyer", who will buy their junk for their ridiculous price.

We had our house on the market at a price we were happy with and were offered riculously low prices by what we called timewasters.

We increased the price and it went, with discount, for the price we originally wanted.

a serious seller must post pictures or atleast mentioned the price. I always check the adds, but for those without price me neither won't waste my time calling. In this way you will minimize the question of the buyer. SO BE SERIOUS SELLER BEFORE EXPECTING SERIOUS BUYER!!!

into the classifieds:

Please read advert fully before picking up the phone:

1- the price? QR1,000 (or whatever it is)

Do not ask:

2- what is the last price? (QR1,000)

3- any discount? (NO)

4- what is the final price? (QR1,000 - Dingbat)

5- any special offer? (NO, what are you dumb?)

6- what is the unnegotiable price? Just pay the QR1,000 or p*ss off - you are not asking anything intelligent any longer!

The price quoted IS THE LAST PRICE.... Capich?

FFS, if I wanted to haggle, wouldn't have bothered with a base price!!!!

finaly they will say: actually i have the same thing and i want to know the current market price - If you don't know... phone the dealer... just like I did!

When i sold one of my items here i added 'serious buyers only' because i wouldn't want a buyer hassling / asking for discounts or just wasting my time saying that they will pay but not turn up and etc.

Joe_ooya, but how you would know if the buyer is serious or not? if he didn't buy your item, does it make him "not serious"??

By qatarisun• 22 Dec 2010 17:05
qatarisun

The rock, and what's wrong with that? may be the guy has never seen X5 from inside, and he thought it is more spacious?

Brit, i also don't understand what do they mean. I myself, when I want to buy something, i have to check all world before I deside which one to buy. I like to have ALL available options. So for big things i usually take my time. It doesn't make me "not serious" buyer. Because eventually i do buy it. But while I am checking store by store, I might look like someone who has nothing to do in her life, except for bothering sellers.. which is wrong. :)
