Septuplets mother says family can't cope

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt: An Egyptian woman who gave birth to septuplets last week after taking fertility drugs said yesterday her family was too poor to raise the newborns.
Ghazala Khamis, 27, delivered three girls and four boys at an Alexandria hospital after doctors performed a Caesarean section six weeks before her due date. She has three other daughters, aged between five and 10.
Khamis remained in hospital yesterday, recovering from a blood transfusion she received during the delivery. A family doctor said she and the newborns were in stable condition.
Lying on a rusted metal bed and surrounded by family and friends, Khamis said her family lived in a mud house in a village without a hospital in Beheira province.
“I need someone to help me with housing, and food for the children. We can’t cope with this by ourselves,” she said.
Khamis’s husband, Faraj Mohamed Ali, said he is a sharecropper who earns about 15 Egyptian pounds ($3) on the days he finds work.
“We already have three girls. She wanted a boy. I told her because of our standard of life, three are enough. We were barely coping with three children,” he said.
Septuplet births are extremely rare, but the rise in the use of fertility drugs has increased the chances of multiple births.
Abdel Rahim Mousa, a doctor who prescribed Khamis fertility drugs two months before she became pregnant, said no one imagined she would give birth to septuplets.
“We didn’t expect it. She took the right dosage. It’s true drugs can cause twins, but not this many children,’ he said. “She might be able to suckle twins, but not this many.”
Ghazala’s sister, Hanan Khamis, said the family had not seen contributions despite the media attention the newborns have received. - Reuters

Ummmmm, if you can't cope with having 10 kids, then why did you have them? Why do I think they did this just to get the hand outs and are now shocked to see they aren't coming in?

Hopefully, some Egyptian companies will come forward and "sponsor" them for a few years..

Intersting that this time , it was the WIFE that wanted a boy!

It’s true drugs can cause twins, but not this many children,’..My Word! Can cause twins! What a twat this Doc is, fertility treatment may cause a multiple pregnancy and that includes septuplets.

Well, if you take fertility treatment this is the risk you take...now she should deal with it!

It also states that they couldn't really handle the 3 they already had so why try for a fourth.....

There is no way she carried seven children around for 9 months and didn't know she was carrying them, and it's standard practice to abort multiple fetusus as it's dangerous to both the mother and the other children. I think this is her excuse.

They never expected to have 7 kids. As they had three girls they wished for a boy, which is normal in arab culture. I think its the first report I read that they cant afford these children. I am sure there will be help from people..
