Schools / is their really the best one?

I have been in Qatar for quite a long time and I’ve always wondered which is the best private English speaking school for my kids, and after soliciting with several of our friends I decided to enroll  my kids in one of the best schools in Doha “as it claims”, however, despite the fact that this English speaking school (X) had laterally a yearly increment in their tuition fees since 4 years back, which I could not understand the reason behind it, noting that the school building and services has not changed since more than 10 years until last year.Nevertheless, I did not mind the very high tuition fees which was one the highest 3 in Doha, until we decided to shift the kids to another school since we felt that the tuition fees and other expenses has become unaffordable to us, so we took the kids for an entrance exam at another school of an equal level, and the big surprise came when that school refused my kid and the reason is “the reading and writing level of the English language was not suitable for the level they are in” !!!! boooom…. now this is only for the English language how is the situation in the other academic subjects !!!!So my kid for the last 4 years spent was not getting the proper teaching level accepted, and we did not realize this fact until today simply because we did not “cross check” what our kid is learning!!Now the question is, who’s responsibility is this, and is their somebody or a body of some sort who should inspect these English speaking school who “CLAIM” they have the best syllabus and teaching level but the fact is that they have nothing except lies and steeling peoples money.Just for the sake of mentioning it the tuition fees for the (X) school has reached to QR20,700 for years 1 to 6.

I don't want to disturb in any way, so maybe you could let me know if it's better to call you in the evening or the morning? Thank again, and I look forward to discussing this further.

It is up to you in the end but I know so many horror stories from students in that school. Most of them are in secondary though, so if you are talking about primary then perhaps it is good there. But I would never recommend any parent put their child in that school, it operates more like a business then a school and students don't get the attention they deserve.

Hi Fatherted,

It looks like the situation in all schools is more drastic than I thought from what you say,However, my info about QIS is that it is a fine school and to be honest this is the school that I’m referring to being the less tuition fees and better syllabus and teaching fundamentals than the other one that my kid is in, and also, QIS is the school that made the exam to my kid and informed us that the level of English language my kid is learning now is not the proper level that it should be (i.e. the comprehension, size of words and paragraph and understanding given is less than the appropriate standard), now what I understood from some of my friends is that this school provides this way of teaching to facilitate the issue on the pupils and make it less hard (i.e. just let the pupil learn in any way and move on without exerting more effort to teach when it is required to make more effort), also in Mathematics it less than the level given in QIS. I’m sorry for showing QIS to be a better school which is defiantly not my intention, and I’m sure that there are better schools than QIS but this was the example that I took

You should not care about embarassing these unscrupulous institutions. I for one know that Qatar International School has a very poor standard of teaching, my friend's son had his physics results and his fellow classmates ones withheld and reviewed by the Edexcel board in the UK because they noticed the answers were the same amongst students, now the sad part is it was the exam instructor there who had told them to work in pairs!!!!This woman was also the head of the science dept!!!

She left back home right after the fiasco because it was her last year there anyway, and the poor students had missed application deadlines and what not thanks to a missing result. Other poor quality schools would be the English Modern, and even the standards of the Doha College are not what they used to be. I am still unsure what Qatar Academy is like and would like to hear from fellow members what they think of that school.

My husband has just been offered a position in Qatar and we are finalising the details of the contract. As I am hoping to pop over and look at schools within the near future I would really appreciate if you could send both school details to me as well. My email address is [email protected]. Thanks!

Hi ZAK,

My children are also studying in one of the british schools. My son has to move to a secondary school from Sep. this year. Can you send me an email at [email protected] telling me the name of the school which is not good. I will then remove name of that school from the list where I am planning to apply. Thanks a lot for this valuable information.

Hi Mira,

The other school is a very fine school and has v. good reputation, also I don’t want to publish their name, but I don’t mind you calling me on 5898834 and again discuss this matter.

Frankly the reason behind putting this on the Internet is that I want to find a resolution for everybody including me and to stop these low graded school "v. expensive school" from growing on our back and our children future just for money !!

We are entitled and have full right to get what we pay for.

Hi Moonbeam, you are right about my reluctance to post the name of the school, not because I care but for ethical reasons, however, you can call me on 5898834 if you like and we discuss further.

Zak could you please post the name of the school where the children were rejected. Obviously, this academic institution has higher standards and lower fees.

Hi Zak. My husband and I are also in the process of deciding which school is best for our daughter. I can understand your reluctance to post the name of the school on the site, but would you mind dropping me an e-mail via my profile / contact page, and letting me know which school has failed so miserably? With such huge tuition fees, the last thing we want to see is our daughter getting less than our money's worth. Thanks in advance.
