Sarah Palin??

Is anybody else puzzled if not bemused by McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate??

I think McCain totally wants to be the first POTUS to bang his Veep. After all, he is a reknowned skirt chaser, and perhaps the man ain't quite ready to ermm... sheath his sword? Besides, Cindy isn't quite the 25 year old he married - her spell with drug addiction seems to have taken its toll a little. What better way to take the edge off that gowing eye-sore than appointing young cute female ass to the ermmm... presidential staff? LOL

Ok, I'm being a little facetious and perhaps a little more cruel.

Seriously though - is Sarah Palin the next most qualified republican to be next President of the US?

So much for thorough vetting. Not even a week into her Veep campaign and already Sarah Palin is embroiled in controversy. Her 17 yr old unwed daughter is pregnant.

The dems probably can't believe their luck. Looks like the Republicans are doing a good job of mashing themselves up!

..fair point. I think its a valid tactic too. However, if they're going to attempt a 'Hillary' they need a Hillary.

Hillary Clinton has over 25 years of civil and elected service to her name. She's earned the votes. She has a long and impressive record to boast of. Tellingly, she also never asked for a vote merely because she's a woman. The woman has earned her respect, and her authority.

John McCain couldn't find a single experienced Republican woman to play Hillary?

First off, McCain is a confessed dilletante where economics are concerned. What does Sarah Palin bring to the plate to offset this weakness? The square root of fanny anne.

Secondly, one of McCain's arguments against Obama's candidacy is his 'inexperience'. Obama is 47. McCain has just chosen a 44 year old running mate. What the deuce?!

Third - apparently John McCain met his eventual VP choice all of ONCE before he asked her. Once? He made that consequential a decision based on one meeting??That's all it took to discount Mitt Romney, Huckabee, and even Giuliani? So he's saying these men were all blown out of the water after that one meeting? Is she that brilliant?

If she's that spectacularly stellar in her talents, why did noone suggest she run on her own for president?

To be fair, she may well prove to be an outstanding candidate. But what message does that send to his fellow contestants to the nomination that he didn't show them the minimum respect in at least appearing to vet her more. One meeting?? Now this starts to look like a high risk, if not downright reckless stunt. A headliner grabber. It also looks like a mismatch. I don't see McCain entertaining much resistance or challenge from this kid. After all, how can she tell McCain anything about anything in Washington - she's never been there! She's only 44!!

McCain is 72 years old. He's battled cancer 4 times. God forbid, he becomes the president and joins the other 4 presidents who have died in office due to illness. He will then have lumbered the country with Sarah Palin??

Can anyone honestly tell me that she is ready to be president???

Bollocks. I think this is brilliant for Obama and the democrats, and this election is now their's to lose.

Wanna get laid? Crawl up a chicken's bum and wait.

Ballzizm.

McCain, is simply doing what the democrats wanted to achieve with Hilary Clinton, but in a more subtle way, ie by putting a woman into the vice presidents role, the people will want this change. I can see the tactic behind this, if the democrats want to run with Obama for the President, (Black American candidate), then the Republicans will accomodate the other side of the voters spectrum by having a woman in the potential VP role, a good compromise if one can't have a woman in the Presidents role.

Lets hope that your question is not put to the test. Personally, I have had enough of Republicans to last me a lifetime.

I know the US is a Republic and not a democracy but I would like to see a little more democarcy and a little less pandering to the interests of big business. Obama has promised to restrict the power of the lobbyists. I hope he is succesful in his bid for the presidency and that your question regarding Sarah Palin's fitness for the presidency is never put to the test.

was directed at me or not. Either way, I'm sure we can all see past any (obvious) messing around and address the pith of the question... which remains... is Sarah Palin honestly the next most qualified person in the Republican party to be their choice for president?

For the record, I'm just an interested Brit with a healthy (or absolutely appropriate - pick whichever cos both apply) sense of superiority where anything American or Canadian is concerned.
