Rules of the Road

Rochester
By Rochester

As a public service to newcomers, I thought I'd post a copy of this valuable document :

Arabian Automotive Association: Rules of the Road
[Remember, your lives are in the hands of God: Have No Fear!]

Ten Top Tips for driving in the Gulf.

1. Keep to your lane!

Landcruisers, BMWs and Mercedes may use the fast lane.

All other cars should keep to the right.

2. On entering a roundabout, remember God preserves the Pure in Heart.

Just drive straight in and He will protect you.

3. The right lane of a roundabout is reserved for taxis to drop off passengers.

4. Double parking on roundabouts is only permitted if vendors are selling National Flags or watermelons.

5. Take the right hand lane if you are turning left, and vice versa.

6. If ‘other’ types of car use the fast lane, flash your headlights and they will get out of the way. Failing this, a gentle nudge to the bumper will do the trick.

7. Red traffic lights mean Stop! Green means Go!

* [Landcruisers and pickups are exempt from this rule.]

8. Always stay back at least ten inches from the car in front of you.

 * [Landcruisers and pickups are exempt from this rule.]

9. Children sitting on the driver’s lap need not use a safety belt.

10. Use your horn frequently to signal “Have a Nice Day, Brothers!”

for giving me the longest thread on the board. I don't see many bright additions to my Ten Top Tips for the Road, though...[ the one about wearing dark clothes at night deserves to be included, though.]

the poor little exclamation marks?

Anyway. You said to stealth that you tend to keep your saying do unto others what you want to do unto you, but this is happening to him because he is doing these things to others, so it goes back to him but I think it has gone round so much it is coming back to you and if you maybe offset it by not doing something onto an other it might rverse and you will end up doing unto others what you shouldn't have in the first place. Yes?

Here, have some exclamation marks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have some spare ones, I never really use them much anyway.

This road rule reminds me when I was in Saudi, I used to go out by taxi, as woman are not allowed to drive there.

In Saudi, when they see the traffic light on the other way is yellow, they will go even it's not green yet.

One time I rode with an Indian driver, as he moves he almost had an accident and he said "Pakistanis"

Next time I rode with Saudi driver he's quite aggressive driver and as he did u-turn he almost hit a car then he said "Indians"

My kids school bus driver is Pakistani and one time I went with my kids for a meeting using school bus another car over take him and cut him he said "Saudis"

People do blame each other just to convince themselves it's not their fault!!!

How do you know they are pakindians? Did you ask them or was it written on their faces? Or maybe you are very good at telling nationalities by looking at a person. They might be Egyptians, Sri Lankans, Nepalese, Syrians, etc. etc. etc. I have seen a few whites driving bicycles around as well.

abc150: sorry, but I haven't seen anybody except for pakindians slowly driving bicycles in the middle of the road. There is nothing racist about it.

It was all ging very interesting and funny till racist comment by Terramax. I do not know how drivers in Brazil drive but I am sure they are not extremely law abiding drivers (nowhere are).

Yes, and hire a driver who got his license in a country with left-sided traffic.

Also you might want instead of a car drive a bicycle in the middle of the road, obstructing all traffic. This rule applies to pakindians only.

11. When texting, concentrate on the phone not on the road.
