ROYAL GARDEN COMPOUND

hi,
We were looking to shift to a villa compound when we came across royal garden compound on d ring road.everyone told me that it is very good compound with all facilities like tennis court, swimming pool etc.so we went to the compound & got details from the watchman about the person to be contacted.it seems he is the only person managing the compound on behalf of the landlord.when my husband contacted him he told us that there will be a villa vacant by the month end & if we needed that villa we have to pay him 1 months advance as commission to him.even many of our friends who contacted him earlier got the same reply.he told us that the rent for that compound was 12000/-which is unfurnished with no a/cs &only 4 walls.when my husband told him that no where in doha people charge 1 months rent as advance he rather rudely spoke to my husband & asked whether we want the villa or no.we do not even know whether he has a proper office & who is the landlord?Anyone who has had a similar experience please let me know the exact details about this compound.

In my opinion it would be best to speak to one or two of the tenants inside the compound and interview them with all your concerns. In this way you can get the correct contacts and also you can find out all the pros and cons living inside the compound. It's very difficult to trust people without you knowing them.
If you still insist in getting a place in this compound, try speaking to one of the tenants there. They'd know the terms and correct contact. Besides this would be the best way to know any complaints they might have reg the maintenance.
in qatar you will encounter all sorts of conmen trying to make a quick buc, but i dont think you have to be afraid of him taking your money, since when you hand him the advance just tell him to give you a receipt and a copy of his ID ( and i am pretty sure he wont appreciate this at all) it may not be an advance, but rather comission whih is rather common in here, although i have YET to see a experiences realtor who actually finds a home suited to your needs rather than dumping the most expensive plots on you and getting their comission. As for this "landlord" i would NOT recommend taking this villa purely on the basis that if he is showing attitude now, imagine what would happen when you called him for maintainence works, i dont think he will agree to anyhing!!
also i would like to add, if you dont mind keep looking because for 12, 000 you will find an EXCELLENT villa (may not have all the facilities, such as a tennis court, but it would contain a pool, gym and other amenities. But honestly after the initial phase no one bothers using them again)
my friends dad got his money stolen that way
