is this the same as a residence visa? can all expats apply for a resident permit, if so, what does it take to get one? and what are the privileges extended to you?
Once you have a work visa or residence visa, you can enter Qatar as many times during the validity of the visa. You may leave the country only via an exit permit, you may not be out of the country for more than 6 months during the validity of your visa.
Travel within GCC (Saudi, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain)
1) It depends on what is put in your passport, which will be work permit.
2) Bahrain, you will be allowed to travel.
3) Dubai - UAE, it depends on what is on your ID card, and being the first time, I would recommend a visa before travel. Through my experience UAE has no problem but here at Doha airport they usually have all sorts of restrictions.
well, my contract says that I get a resident visa, and according to Sabrina I can travel and come back to Qatar without needing a new visa. I guess that means that I can pay a visit to my friends in bahrain and dubai by acquiring a visit visa to those places, and not worry about re-entry to Qatar? is that applicable to Saudi Arabia as well?

1. Liquor License
2. Some club memberships require it
3. Driver's license (permanent one)
4. To leave the country and come back without having to get a new visa
5. Qatar ID Card, which leads to a Qatar health card
Your sponsor will apply for the residence permit/visa, most probably as you will be working here it will be a work visa.
It allows you to open a bank account, get a credit card, buy a car.
Anyone add more????
