Rent penalty while leaving Qatar
Hi,
I need advice from anybody. I am planning to leave Qatar by end of August-2016 whereas my rent agreement states that I have to give 3 months notice period before vacating the flat. But since I am leaving Qatar and I did not get much time to inform my landlord about it. If I go to court, will it be settled in my favor ?
I already sent an email to the agent who was the mediator while taking the apartment on rent and this email was sent before 2 months.
Please advise.

britexpat....I am ready to go but I am short of time as I have to leave on 31st August 2016 and I am afraid if I am held because of this dispute. If they are not going to hold me for this reason, I am ready to go the committee as suggested by sheenservices.
Instead of asking on QL, why not do as Sheen Services suggested and go to Rental disputes Settlements Committees first .... Get the ball rolling

Sheenservices - I have an email which I sent to the agent on 11th June 2016 and notified that I will be leaving by 31st July 2016. But he called me and said you have to complete the notice period of 3 months so I had to stay upto end of August-16. I believe I can use that email as a proof that I have enough notice period. If I go to Rental disputes settlements Committees, how much time processing may take ?

Well, if you sign a paper with certain terms and conditions, I doubt how the decision will be in your favor if your go against the terms and conditions you signed.
The agent has very less to do with it and will not help.
If you have a termination letter, best is to go to the landlord directly, explain him the situation and try to work it out. The least you will have to do it is let the security deposit go.
Properties are not getting on rent like hot cakes as it used to be during 2015 so they might want to charge you more than this. However in most cases, if you are terminated, landlord/agencies do consider this and reduce the 3 months/2 months period to a 1 month period.

Qatar Rent Law No.2 of 1975, Article 31 states. The lessee(tenant) may cancel the contract before the expiry of its period if unexpected circumstances arise such as a change in the domicile (leaving Qatar) provided that the dates of notification for evacuation are observed, as stated under Article 24 of the Rent Law No. 2.
Article 24 – Notice periods
If the lessee wishes to vacate the leased property, he/she shall notify the other party:
15 days before for a three month contract
one month before for a period not exceeding six months
two months before for a period exceeding six months Unless there is an agreement providing otherwise
