Realtors predict further hike in rents this year - The Peninsula

DOHA • Real estate experts have said that rents are expected to go even higher this year, according to a report published in Al Sharq.

The experts said that the number of expatriates coming into the country was still high further pushing the demand for apartments. The experts, however, believe that the increase in rents will be more in the case of luxury accommodation as people prefered such apartments or villas, whereas rents for the older accommodations could see a decrease or at the least be stabilised.

In the latter case though, it will be in phased manner, said the experts. Even so, these expectations do not find an ear from tenants who think that nothing will really change, especially since all their hopes that some relief would be seen by the end of the Asian Games in December, proved otherwise.

Usama Osman, an employee with a real estate company, said that the crises are due a number of causes. He said the most important is the demolition of old buildings. Another reason, he said, is that most of the owners of newly-built houses prefer to rent their properties to companies and institutions. He denied that middlemen have any role in rising rents and added that renovations to some buildings inside Doha are another factor.

Mahmoud Ali, another real estate employee, blamed the owners of such buildings saying that they were the only source who fixed the prices besides putting conditions on renting out apartments in bulk to companies and not individuals. Abedrahman Budair believes that the signing of a long-term contract between owners and companies and the attached high prices play a role as some owners only look for such deals. He also backed middlemen saying they had no role in the rising rents.

Husein Abdeh urged the landlords to be kind to low-income people since some of them cannot even meet the cost of daily expenses.

Well, the world is big, and Qatar is not the only place out there. If the prices will continue to rise, people will leave, as it makes no sense working here.

There is no economic benefit as compared to other places. Tax-free doesn't count anymore. I pay 25% of my income for rent, and tax in my home country is 24,5%. It already doesn't make sense.

I do remember my being alone here (not totally of course there is QA). As u've said, it's not a joke being far from family.

Huhuhu i do remember when i left my 1 year old baby girl after 5 days of her 1st birthday. It's vey hard as a mother but i need to do this for a living.

We'll hoping for all the best to come.

i know many families who uptil 2 years back were living masha'allah a very nice and decent life and today they have to share their privacy with 1 or 2 other families. its not been the same for them, many families have sent their families back due to rent and hikes in school fee, general increase in expenses.

for them, i truly wish the rents come to some level that they can easily afford and have their family with them.its no fun having to live away from your family.

For rents increasing is Real Estate companies itself. Getting too much commision and with huge staff just hiking the rents.

Actually the rents are decresing gradually, but this Mafia is giving wrong impression so that people can't bargain .I must say that Real Estate agents to be kind on low income people.
