About having energy drinks in compliance with Qatar laws or somethin'?
Y'know, I made a joke the other day about having a Gatorade with halal-approved seal...but they turn it into a serious matter.
This is what I meant by Political Correctness. Jokes taken seriously without common sense. And yet they all blame dubya for being one of the PC brigade when they themselves act similarly like him.
I don't drink much of this energy drinks, but for such a simple thing they're going to do some widespread expenditures and come out with nothing more than putting it on a certain paragraph on a piece of paper that may probably be worthless in the future.
*sigh*
I can well imagine that Oz chefs are better trained in nutrition than Canadian nutritionists..... I have no idea how much a cup of cooked lentils weight... jees. Trust me it isnt 2 + kilos.
Last time u were arguing that your not Mr. heart Throb and that i should see u on facebook to know that..
now your saying you are.. hmmmm very good change.. ;-) someone has been boosting the Ego!
WYSIWYG
And my life, at the minute, isnt laden with excitement :(
But hey, im still the "original and best" MR Heart throb...

good afternoon Mr. heart throb?! why u so ' BORED BORED BORED ' today?
WYSIWYG
I know that for me.. surviving with out meat is a big no no.. LOl.. i Wuv it..!!! :-D.. ok.. now i'm hungry..
u guys are so mean!!!
WYSIWYG
But they don't. I know lots of vegetarians and they don't have to take supplements and vitamins any more than non-vegetarians do. They get everything they need from food, and don't have to eat buckets of it!
And no-body died from consuming too much of them.
Just eat n drink what yer like, stuff all those scaremongrers....
[img_assist|nid=103941|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
NIL ILLEGITIMI CARBORUNDUM
Mis Cat didnt say they are not getting but she is saying they have to go for many supplements.. can u imagine the amount of money they spend on vitamins?! sheesh.. its definitely cheaper to buy a slab of meat :P
Mis Cat it has been long!!! Grrrrrr!!!! but then forgive me i've been realy sick and busy with work and family!!!
WYSIWYG
I think the fact that there are so many healthy vegetarians in the world shows that they're getting what they need from somewhere.
Well they do train us well as chefs in Oz we have to do 2 and a half years curricular studies as well as doing our four years on the job before we get our ticket and part of those studies are food sciences and health and nutrition, thats why most Aussie chefs are sought the world over, just not the female ones....;p

D*mn girl!!! I miss you!!
U sure know ur nutrition!!! for what i can rack from my memory.. i can say ur 100% correct in eveything u said..

Have you ever weighed a cup of cooked lentils as a chef I can tell you, just because you have a cup of water and a cup of flour doesn't mean that you have the same weight. it comes down to density.
"Your born, You Live, You Die, given this premise, one can conclude since we have no control over when we are born and when we die, the only thing that matters to us should be how we live, simple really?" Mis-Cat to her philosophy Lecturer.
Yeah..still busy...;P

Morning Mis-cat.....see you're busy again ;-)
I may be blonde but I am wise
smile lots laugh more
still baloney...
You still need to eat 260g of cooked lentils to equate to 200g of cooked meat and then you will still not get the same amount of beneficial protein as the meat as a study by the CSIRO has already debunked.
What you forget is human physiology and that includes the absorption of the beneficial nutrients in food in a nut shell it is why we are omnivorous our body only has one stomach, which is our main processing plant, this is were the bulk of nutrients are extracted from, most herbivorous animals have a further 2 to 4 stomachs for this and is why unlike us they can extract the further proteins from greens and the process takes much longer it can take up to 4 days from beginning to end, ours has max 24hrs and even then this is a generalization as it should take less than this, ever wondered why when you wake up in the morning the first thing you need to do is take a s^%T it's our bodies resetting getting rid of the waste from the day before.
As for iron intake it still takes 2kg of green leafy veges a day to give the ordinary person person the RDI of iron as opposed to 200g of meat/fish or poultry.

Thanks tallg...I'll tell them thats its offical, a wise man has spoken so its true ;-)
I may be blonde but I am wise
smile lots laugh more
Yes. They are odd. You can tell them that from me.
tallg....I get that, its just one of my friends turns green with just the thought of meat, not where it comes from, but she will happily handle, cook and eat something that looks (and she claims tastes) like meat
I may be blonde but I am wise
smile lots laugh more
I can understand that if people don't eat meat because they don't like the thought of animals being killed then they may want to eat something that resembles meat.
tallg...I always found that TVP stuff curious as my vegie friends would say, it looks like meat etc but its not so thats why we eat it. I thought, well if you want meat, just eat meat?? They respond with, oh no we don't like meat. Then why the reason for wanting TVP is because it reminds them of meat? A pyschologist could go to town on this
I may be blonde but I am wise
smile lots laugh more
None of the vegetarians I know only eat veges! They have all found alternatives to meat.
Mis thats insane. All Dr. who prescribe veg diets arent worth their weight in salt...
The average CUP of cooked lentils has 18 gr of protein. The human body needs .45 grams pf protein per kilogram of body weight, with the maximum being 0.8 grams per kilo. Average weight is lets say... 70 kilos. Your protein requirment is between 30 and 40 grams a day up to about 70 grams a day. 5 oz of tofu have 11 grams, throw in a protein shake, some oatmeal, nuts and you are well over your RDA. Iron is another story all together and meat is not the best source, green leafy vegetable are.
better go for the deer one.
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
That's true but the truth is that most veges don't eat enough of these other sources to still get the RDI of protein and iron.
"Your born, You Live, You Die, given this premise, one can conclude since we have no control over when we are born and when we die, the only thing that matters to us should be how we live, simple really?" Mis-Cat to her philosophy Lecturer.
In Mexico its a delicacy - criadillas...
bull testicle tacos
Ew Da, I said a delicacy in some countries, not for me! Ewwwwww........
Sharp wit, maybe
Sharp tongue, sometimes
But no sharp horns here
You show me a Real Doctor that is worth his weight in salt that prescribes to a Vegetarian diet and I'll show you were pigs fly.
You do relise the amount of legumes that you have to eat as opposed to meat ratio to get the same amount of beneficiary proteins and iron intake is almost 10 to 1 that means for every 250g steak you eat you have to consume 2.5 kg of legumes or take vitamin supplements to average the equivalent.
"Your born, You Live, You Die, given this premise, one can conclude since we have no control over when we are born and when we die, the only thing that matters to us should be how we live, simple really?" Mis-Cat to her philosophy Lecturer.
But as a vegetarian you don't have to get all your proteins and iron from vegetables. There are lots of other sources.
thank you next time stay miles away from me dont wana get attacked by you and your horns
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
oh dont insult calling it super-drink.
its called supreme superb drink yea will open a coffee cottage Da QL Drink :D
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
Bulls testicles are a delicacy in some countries
LoL DaRuDE, Tallg ........
Da - you should start marketing your super-drink.
i heard from some stupid resources that redbull was made from a bulls testicals :P
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
My husband used to drink 2 or 3 Red Bulls a day and developed irregular racing heart beats and an eye twitch. True, Gatorade is not an energy drink but more of an electrolyte drink.
As for vegetarian diets, they put far less strain on the heart and do wonders if you have high triglycerides (fat in the blood) and cholesterol. Ask any Dr... they will tell you red meat twice a week and lean proteins the rest with fish being the most recommended. Protein can come from lentils, soy, and a great deal from sprouts with no saturated fats at all.
Mis-cat, what you are referencing are articles related to study groups with certain disorders and deficiencies and doesnt really have any grounds with the general population.
but they will never ban my drink because they will never know coffee with lemon is 100times powerful than other energy drinks sold out here in the market.
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
I agree with you on that, but you can buy taurine as a vitamin supplement and it is used quiet extensively in the pro sporting world.
"Your born, You Live, You Die, given this premise, one can conclude since we have no control over when we are born and when we die, the only thing that matters to us should be how we live, simple really?" Mis-Cat to her philosophy Lecturer.
Thanks Mis-Cat. That's interesting. Personally I think the 'bad' caffine and sugar levels probably outweigh the 'good' taurine.
Not saying it's better to have an "American Diet" but I am saying that is better to be omnivorous than to be a vege.
"Your born, You Live, You Die, given this premise, one can conclude since we have no control over when we are born and when we die, the only thing that matters to us should be how we live, simple really?" Mis-Cat to her philosophy Lecturer.
So what you're saying is that it is better to have a "standard American diet" , Burgers, Steak, grits etc etc than be a namby pamby vegan..
But more simply,
Taurine, often referred to as an amino acid, is not part of the human body’s structural proteins. Instead, taurine remains free in the tissues and bloodstream. In fact, taurine is one of the most abundant free amino-acid-like compounds found in the heart, the skeletal muscles and the nervous system.
At times of extreme physical exertion, the body no longer produces the required amounts of taurine, which results in a relative deficiency. Taurine acts as a metabolic transmitter and is also known to have a detoxifying effect.
Taurine also plays an important role in the brain. Some researchers believe that taurine can be a beneficial dietary supplement for people who suffer from bipolar disorder (manic depression).
The only downside to taking taurine from a can of red bull is the caffeine and sugar levels in the drink it's self.

Mis-Cat - I don't see where that says it's good for workout, but that may be because I didn't understand some of the words!
where will i get my powerful energy booster vimto from.
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
lol Rizks.. just stick to the milk...
In other words...too much Taurine buggers up the liver!
RedBull with MilK.... hmmmmm MARVELOUS !!!!
Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Fabulous! Hic!
Actually that is not entirely true, here is more info on Taurine,
"Taurine is conjugated via its amino terminal group with chenodeoxycholic acid and cholic acid to form the bile salts sodium taurochenodeoxycholate and sodium taurocholate. The low pKa (1.5) of taurine's sulfonic acid group ensures that this moiety is negatively charged in the pH ranges normally found in the intestinal tract and thus improves the surfactant properties of the cholic acid conjugate, which can be found in many energy drinks today. Taurine has also been implicated in a wide array of other physiological phenomena including inhibitory neurotransmission,long-term potentiation in the striatum/hippocampus, membrane stabilization, feedback inhibition of neutrophil/macrophage respiratory bursts, adipose tissue regulation, calcium homeostasis and recovery from osmotic shock. It also acts as an antioxidant. .[12]
Prematurely born infants who lack the enzymes needed to convert cystathionine to cysteine may become deficient in taurine. Thus, taurine is a dietary essential nutrient in these individuals and is often added to many infant formulas as a measure of prudence. There is also evidence that taurine is beneficial for adult human blood pressure and possibly, the alleviation of other cardiovascular ailments.Recent studies have also shown that taurine can influence (and possibly reverse) defects in nerve blood flow, motor nerve conduction velocity, and nerve sensory thresholds in experimental diabetic neuropathic rats. Taurine levels were found to be significantly lower in vegans than in a control group on a standard American diet. Plasma taurine was 78% of control values, and urinary taurine 29%."

U R right Tallg.....
By the way i will stick to MILK from now on ...
No RedBullies any more ... Milk With Banana...B4 & after my workouts ...!!!
Absolutely, if it was good for fitness every athlete would be endorsing it! Steer clear of any of those drinks!
Rizks - RedBull keeps you awake. It doesn't benefit your body during/after a workout in anyway.
Red Bull contains an ingredient called "Taurine" which is the only known natural sulfonic acid and was first discovered in Ox bile it has also been found naturally occuring in Bull Seamen and urine but is mainly found and extracted from the intestines but can be found in all mammals also. But fear not the Taurine found in Red bull is synthetic.
It is also highly beneficial to cats (probably why I drink the stuff)and is required by Law in the States to be included in all marketed cat foods wet and dry.

WTH ?
I dont want to DRINK REDBULL ANYMORE ?
NOR B4 NOR AFTER ......:( - I QUIT !!!
well, i used to drink red bull before since i had to stay up all night till early morning and drinking it just before i start my shift seemed to work for me.
Don't have it before either Rizks!!!
Mornin Morning Jamille n Friendz !!!
Yes, SN is right. Red Bull isn't designed to help with recovery from physical exercise and probably does more damage than good.
WAT a DUMB !!!
Someone told me to have it after my activities....:(
Damn !! Tat should be written on the DAMN CAN's as a WARNING to have it before the activities ....LoL
water before and after Rizks.... GM..
Thank ku Supernurse, tat was very useful advice.....
I would drink plain old, cold water b4 my workout hereafter .....
lol Rizks you're supposed to drink it before the activities..
mmmm, energy drink is deceiving, they don't give 'energy' as such.......they should never ever be used by people for fitness reasons......these drinks put far too much strain on the heart! would you drink 2 double espressos before a work out? Just drink plain old water!
well i would drink red bull after i do Pushups and some hard workout to boost my energy level ...:)
i wouldn't drink red bull unless i really, really need to boost energy...
they are lethal! about time they are regulated! and red bull stinks!
lol brutus..that is too much!
Energy Drinks are Ok if taken moderately eh.. let say 5 to 6 bottles a day(hhhmm... now where is that da** drink)
Cheers

Heard your wife left you,
How upset you must be.
But don't fret about it...
She moved in with me.
just like what pwb said, Gatorade and energy drinks are not the same...
Its all about Caffeine ...
I read somewhere that Redbull enjoys 85% share of the energy drink world market..oops
Was because some 16 to 18 year old (can't remember his age exactly)died some years ago from a heart attack from drinking to much red bull, when they searched his room they found 2 cases of the stuff and discovered he'd been drinking in excess of at least half a case a day, hence why in Australia now you can't buy it in cases and the only packs you get are in 4's while not law they are not supposed to sell them too minors as well.

lol MD!
I had a bad experience at a student night called Vod-Bull many years ago in Birmingham and ever since then the smell of Redbull and similar drinks makes me retch.
I don't mind that Pocari Sweat though. I often have that when I go to the gym.
Just got to one of the many great juice shops in Qatar like Mandarin and drink lovely fresh juice!
Simple
Drinking red bull tastes like liquidised nails.........
yukkkkkkkkyyyyyyyyy
would you drink more of them if they were, tallg?
I don't think the energy drinks in question are quite on the same level as steroids!
Of course any thing like that of steriod or energy boosters destroys the natural balance of the healthy human's body. One way or the other it imparts some damage to heart and other organs. I think natural balanced diet is the best solution to gain energy.
Turkish coffee in Doha I would assume.
I would think that would do the trick!
Gatorade and Red Bull/energy drinks are two different things.

@heero, there is NOTHING to do with Halal.
They say it's BAD for someone's health, this is supported by different Health councils around the world. Now they want to impose a law which says that someone under 16 cannot drink it!
Simple!
The fact that it was on the headline was deemed important by the editor. That too is simple.

I was mightily confused as well.
Heero - you are all over the shop! I really didn't have a clue about anything you wrote - just a selection of unrelated items cobbled together with the words 'energy drink' thrown in at random.
Keep off the booze mate. :)
"Deaths in the Bible. God - 2,270,365
not including the victims of Noah's flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the

The matter of making it a headline is.
There're more headline news to read on this newspaper than this...
Can they just...put it in the Time Out section?

Do you actually read things before you post about them heero? It has nothing to do with halah and nothing to do with political correctness.
Agreed brit, they need to be regulated.
It says not suitable for people under 10 or somethin'...

When in Saudi, I got hooked on Red Bull.. Started drinking four/five a day and found I was getting palpitations and quickening of the heart beat.
You really need to be careful with these types of drinks..
It has nothing to do with them being halah-approved. It's about the potential health hazards, especially for younger people. It came about as a result of a study carried out in Australia.
