Rash driver fined
A QATARI motorist was fined QR5,000 and banned from driving for two months following a conviction for reckless driving that led to the death of his passenger.
The court of first instance also ordered him to pay, jointly with his insurance company, QR150,000 blood money to the family of the victim – a Qatari national.
The accident took place shortly before midnight on September 16 last year, two weeks before the new traffic law was implemented.
The court heard that the accused was driving his pickup in the left hand lane in Lukta area heading towards the Academy Roundabout when he hit a tanker irrigating the traffic island.
The motorist told interrogators he was driving at 80 kmph and was looking for a cassette to play when his passenger suddenly shouted, “The car! The car!”
He said: “I tried to operate the brake but it was too late to avoid hitting it.”
As a result of the collision, the passenger was hospitalised and later died of his wounds.
The accused confessed to his mistake in court and the presiding judge said it was enough to convict him of reckless driving leading to death.

how could anyone be so stupid to drive and look for a cassette at the same time...
They smoke and drink tea while driving.
Talk on mobile phones with hand gestures
Driving 160kph while foot on the dash board....
Its called multi-tasking
the reason behind the accident:
"The motorist told interrogators he was driving at 80 kmph and was looking for a cassette to play when his passenger suddenly shouted, “The car! The car!”
how could anyone be so stupid to drive and look for a cassette at the same time...
Which reminds me, on the way to work.. I saw this Qatari lady she was driving a new Lexus well, not that it matters but she swerved like she's gonna run out of roads to drive on!!
Imagine we were facing the traffic light and her car was in a horizontal position right in front of us. That's how she swerved... it was really baaaaaaaaaaaaad.
I'm guessing she was really in a hurry and didn't mind that she's actually an obstruction. LOL
Qatari women are also super aggressive when they drive.
qatari men are too aggressive on the roads. they are a menace.
maybe the government should let only qatari women drive.

It amazes me that cases such as these take a year to come to court. Imagine the poor victim's family's suffering, waiting so long for closure
