The KSA Ministry of Justice should be renamed The KSA Ministry of Injustice.

Promoting rape - very sad . Misusing a peacefull religion for the purpose of justifying the selfish schemes of the so called authorities.

Indeed a bunch of sick barbarians. How come they have not been put to death yet? Seems the courts were too busy prosecuting the victims!

They raped a man, and a woman Fatimah. Unbelievable!

And hard to follow because if you look it up, different news agents are reporting it in different ways. If indeed the victim was lashed then those responsible giving her the sentence are obviously wrong and should be lashed themselves for the oppression and injustice they are causing to an already suffering woman.

As for the rapist then he deserves nothing less than the death penalty!

I guessed people just have to be extra careful so they don't bump to any maniacs/criminals around! but who can tell when danger is coming your way? :(

We have live in the gulf for many years and still living here. In fact, my family and I feel more safer living in the gulf than in the UK.

JJH - the crime and initial sentencing happened in the past.

But it was only in the last week that the sentence for the female rape victim was increased from 90 lashes to 200 lashes.

That is why it is in the recent headlines all around the world.

American news outlets are loving it. Any story that they can get their hands on to give a certain impression about the Gulf...

Perhaps not lashes , however I have it from a pretty good source of at least 2 x maids locked up in deportation centre in Doha for reporting being raped by their employer.

So , before wanting to fix other countries , have a look in your own backyard.

Britexpat, it may had happen in year 2007 but the news came out again September 24, 2013 and this is when I come accross it! Perhaps it took them years before they decided who is wrong and who to punish in this incident. But obviously, in any part of the world rape victim should not be punish but instead they should get justice. I think it's really sad! :(

looks like after the initial horror of being raped she has to go through it all over again. Well the guy who meted this sentence should also be made to experience this punishment so he understands how much it hurts and specially when done on a innocent victim

BTW, the male she was with was also raped by the Saudi guys, and he was also sentenced to lashes. For being raped up the a...

However he is only getting 90 lashes. She was sentenced to 90, but when he lawyer protested they decided instead to give her 200.

Just because this case is 6 years old doesn’t mean similar cases are not happening today.

It’s just that the Qateef girl was lucky.

yes this was a very old case that cause international outrage at the time.

We are probably say to say that victims will still get lashes now as nothing has changed.

Probably the only thing that has changed is that victims do not report rape for fear of being jailed and beaten.

Victory for rapists in saudi arabia.

Men can get weird sentences too in Saudi:

Manama: A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced a young man to 10 years in prison and 2,000 lashes for dancing naked on the roof of a car.

You missed the whole point.

She was spotted alone with a man.

That's against the local law { to protect her from dangers } .

Authority needs to take action.

My favourite bit is when the lawyer spoke up on her behalf and the judge increased the sentence. Disgusting, shameful and we should take a stand against the immoral Saudi Arabia.

Boycott Hajji until Saudi reforms it's legal system!

It is what God wants.
