Radio in Qatar
By Doha Dreamer •
Hi all,
...well its been over a decade (probably) since I've listened to radio in Doha and from what I read on here it doesn't sound like there have been many improvements - if any?!
I am trying to find out what radio stations exist in qatar - even online... Does anyone know who owns them and how to get in touch with them?
Also, I heard that there are supposed to some new radio broadcasting licenses available in the future... does anyone know anything about this?
I'd appreciate it if anyone can help me out with some answers to my Q's :oD
EDIT: Check out the following:
89.6 MHz - OneFM
98.6 MHz - Radio Malayalam
106.3 MHz - Radio Olive
Now they have launched 4 Indian Radio stations in Qatar.
89.6 MHz - OneFM
91.7 MHz - Radio Suno
98.6 MHz - Radio Malayalam
106.3 MHz - Radio Olive
Now only Qatar started launching Indian radios in Qatar.

Basically, I am trying to find out what the situation is there right now with radio because it might become a business interest for me.
Is QBS govt owned? does anyone know who runs it? (I.e. the boss? lol)
Thanks again for your reflection on this!!

Vegas...I hope you dont embed flirts in the ipod songs...lol
Before it was QBS....Radio 97.5 FM....The bloody news always started with "United States...." or "United Nation..." and the songs were repeated...
Later I fell in love with Rani & Suruji of "Nation Ka Fun Station Radio 4 FM at 89.1 FM" of UAE....with their non stop chatter & hot topics.....the music was always good Hindi songs....now a days the reception has detiorated and I can hardly get it now.
So now for me its the Asianet (Malayalam) at 657 AM. Before it used to broadcast at 15.37 AM & the reception was bad....but now at at 657AM its excellent.
try to find speakers who CAN READ properly the news...couple a days ago, driving home at evening time, I listened one women at 6pm news, she hardly, but hardly could present the news...I thought either she was sleepy or drunk, cause I also hardly followed her...After the news she started to present a music by request program, making some jokes which she only understood and laughed...wonder if she is like this all the time when she is on duty! No excuses. Maybe is better to choose a non-native english speaker for news, with a good diction, hoping to give better attention to pronunciation...just an idea!
1. Only transmit one language per station. QBS loses the majority of its listeners when they switch to French and back to English.
2. Hire a Station Manager and Producers with successful track records.
3. Hire a Director of News who is good with English.
4. Introduce competition by retransmitting the English service of the BBC. Just like they do in Abu Dhabi.
5. Make the time-slots consistent. For example, during drive time, have a play list that's composed of chart hits from the past two years. No exceptions. Stick to the playlist whether it's Bernie or Joe Mitri on the mike.
6. Ditch the speech programmes. "London call" and the other speech-based programmes are low quality. QBS should decide it's a pop music station and stick to that decision.
7. Daytime is for chart music. Night-time is for dance, rock, goth, country & western, etc. Play the less popular stuff when fewer people are listening. That makes sense doesn't it?
8. Qatarization has no place in the hiring process for radio DJs. People like to listen to familiar voice patterns on the radio. If you want Brits to listen, hire British DJs. If you want Americans to listen, hire American DJs.
9. Remove the Q-Media monopoly on radio advertising. Allow the radio stations to charge a fair rate for ads, and generate cash they can plough back into recruiting talent.
Podcasts and Internet radio are so much better than the sh!it QBS is pumping out.
On a good day Bahrain can be picked up ;o)
Did you Google it first?
I think you have to park next to me to pick it up though...
You can't teach experience...
