THE Traffic Department has warned motorists who do not give way to vehicles on emergency and security duties that they face heavy fines and imprisonment.
An official spokesman said the department reserves the right to refer violators of Clauses No 8,9 &10 of Article 64 of the new traffic law to the courts which could sentence the offenders to imprisonment of minimum one week and maximum one year and/or fine of minimum QR3,000 and maximum QR10,000.

Just read this on Gulf times...whats next? bring it on. I'd like to ask these people who make such rules to first check their freaking roads how its organized. many times at ramada signal i see the traffic jams there and ambulances trying to pass through...where exactly do u want the cars to move to? jump on top of the car in front of them? u want to fine us for breaking traffic singals, now u want us to break the law and still fine us :p

Honking is also a huge problem here my friend her daughter was having seizures and she was in a rush to the hospital and because so many people honk here they didn't take her honking seriously and she could of lost her daughter, so many new things need to be learned in this country its still a bit like the Wild Wild West. I have actually blocked cars on a roundabout once as they were going to cut off an ambulance, what it would get me now is probably a ticket.

I did not say driving like a maniac is ok but there may be no other option than weaving in and out of the traffic.

I feel strongly about this because due to the traffice accidents many patients have not arrived to HMC Emergancy on time esepcially the young boys and children who are involved.

For me if I don't arrive on time I have had a good and interesting life so ces't la vie but these people have a whole life in front of them and should have a chance to save it if is possible.

My main idea here is not to hinder the ambulance but rather make sure it gets through without endangering new lives - get my point??

before u answer that let me tell u i've seen an ambulance smash head on into a truck so badly that they had to bring the fire brigade just to cut the doors off, dont know if there was an patient in the ambulance or not.

so driving like a maniac and endangering the driver's life as well as the patient as well as those on the road is the right thing to do according to u?

If your life was hanging on getting to the hospital on time - you would be glad of them no matter how they are driving.

However considering the general tendencies of drivers in Qatar, where nearly the whole of Qatar are lane hopping (as a sport) just to get one car in front, you have to understand the ambulance driver too he just wants to get his patient to the hospital alive.

More over i've seen the drivers of these ambulances drive like crazy always changing lanes confusing the cars infront of them...if there was one special lane for them to move it would be much better.

The ambulances here in Doha are built extra wide, in many other countries they are not so wide and pass throught the traffic easily.

Any idea how they get through the the rush hour traffic in Tehran???lol

Not a bad idea but there would be many silly people they would stop in the junction.

No need to argue much of this. I think the rulings on giving fines for those covering the way for ambulances should at least not that much. Yes it is appropriate to be implemented. I would agree common sense that majority of the drivers on the road knows its an emergency vehicle needs time and space on the road. But in a case where other cars cant move fast anymore due to heavy traffic jams, they must be patient enough as well on the road than aiming for a fines or violation right away. It should never be that way. It doesnt matter if its wide or small roads out there, the point is safe maneuvering for all by-passers on the road.

What we need to have is a special emergency lane for ambulances like they have else where in the world. OR another suggestion i have is that every ambulance have some sorta remote to change the signals to green to let the cars move or there should be some sorta remote communication that the ambulance can call the Control operator to say We are heading on so and so route see that all signals are GREEN...there are ways to do things not just go around fining everyone.

You don't have to move into the whole crossing use your head - there is no need to cause a crash just a little alway will help the ambulance.

I feel very strongly about hindering an ambulance and this may cause a life I wouldn't like to be responsible for that.

They are spacious...but wat about at signals? What about the Salwa fish market roundabout to Naijah road...u have to go all the way to the next round about if there's an accident on the other side of the road..just having spacious roads is not enough...and yes sometimes there is no way to move no matter what. I've seen it so i've said it.

Smoke, the roads in Doha are quite spacious and most roads are anyway. A normal-size car will still have enough space in a lane. You don't necessarily have to cause an accident to give way to an ambulance :P. Once you hear the siren, it's probably best to alert yourself and plan ahead where you can safely move your car.

Canary true that but ur missing my point...giving way sure everyone HAS to give way but what about when there's NO WAY TO GIVE??

An ambulance on an emergency rout has the right to pass without hindrance and I think that everyone should care about this instead of crowding crossings and changing line at the last minute. Keeping distance from other cars at the traffic lights would help enormously, driving into the crossing hooping and flashing lights will warn others..

Those people drive right behind the ambulance should be fined to this a barbaric way to get around the traffic faster.

People should and have to move over and make way it might just be saving someones life.
