QNB

Hello All,

I am new here. My company opened a account for me in Qatar National Bank. I received the ATM card that day itself, but its not activated as I still have to given them my mobile number etc.

From this forum, it seems, it is more preferable to open a account in Doha Bank, from point of view of sending money to India.

1. If I cancel QNB account, am I liable to pay anything? (I have zero balance there)
2. Are Doha Bank ATM's reasonably around Doha? i.e. getting a ATM won't be a problem?

Thanks

NN

without closing the QNB account. Simple as that.

Actually, you have no problem at all. What is important is you get your salary regularly through QNB. Then withdarw your money and deposit it to Doha. Then you can transfer it to SBI. You are making it complicated.

Last option, ask your company if you can use Doha as your bank where salary can be transferred to?

Okay forgot to mention a important thing. My bank in India is SBI. And Doha Bank has favorable tie-up with SBI from what I read. Just wondering whether its worth the trouble to shift.

I was formerly banking with Doha Bank and they had tie-ups with Axis Bank in India which means an transfer would get your money in Axis bank within a second. Services are good and instant. Doha Bank used to charge Qrs 10 per transaction and this will be reimbursed back to your account if you have an NRI Privilege account with Axis Bank. Not sure about the current charges.

However I am now currently banking with QNB since my present employer had opened an account for transfer of salary. From my experience, transaction charge of QRS 15 is fine since QNB offers a much better exchange rate than Doha Bank. You get more for the exchange rate. Check it out!

the average is 15 QAR. So why shift?

mshaouna: Okay! My main concern was sending money to India and QNB charges 15QR per transaction. So wanted to shift. I won't be one year with them anyway I think because i am here on short term. Thank you for the information.

kumarvt: Thanks for that very handy information.

Company opened it through a informal tie-up. Like the bank representative came to me and we opened it. I will find out whether it was a formal. I suppose you transfer from Doha Bank to India? (If I may ask)

Company opened your account in QNB as to transfer your salary, and more over its zero balance, dont close it as your salary will be transfer in this account, Open another account in Doha Bank, you can keep both accounts and use both ATMS, nowdays you dont need to see for Doha ATM, go any ATM and use any ATM card from aNY bANK

Hi Nanunana

If you cancel the QNB account with less than a month when u opened, there will be a few.

If I am not mistaken I read it somewhere that you have to be at least one year with the account or you pay like 50 QR as an account closure.

I think Doha ATM are reasonably located in most Malls of course and around Doha.

Hope this info helps. Good luck ..

I am using QNB by the way...
