Qatar...Is it on the Right Track of Development ? ? ?

Morning to you all QLers...

While I really enjoy all the topics Heated and Non heated that go on and on on QL...i was stopped by this thought while having a Smokey...for a moment i found time with myself...and while talkin to myself...a question was asked...

"IS QATAR ON THE RIGHT TRACK OF DEVELOPMENT???"

What I mean by this is...

The only example i can think of...keeping aside the rents, commodities, etc etc...prices...

Look at this side...

When I first came to Qatar I was at X amount of salary that gave me about Y Indian Rupees...at an exchange rate of almost 12.5 Rs = 1 QAR...then times went by it went to almost 13Rs ... but now about 6-8 months down the line I find myself staring down at another Oil Barrel myself...with the Rupee hitting the Qatari Riyal strongly at just Rs 10.7...so if u see thats almost 30% down my income...

This is not the case just with the Indian Rupee...I also see other currencies hitting the Riyal quite hard...EXCEPT THE DOLLAR...which is fixed at this rate of QAR 3.6 (unnecessarily)...

I am sure there wud be a time in the very near future, when quite a few of us starting asking the question to ourselves,,, we are staying miles away from what we call HOME...we struggle here day in day out (not on QL)...and what we get translates to almost negligible compared to if we were staying at HOME...atleast I can speak for the Indians only for a fact that the Economy of India is so Strong at this time that the increasing Oil Price is atleast not hitting India like it is hitting the far more developed countries like US, UK or Australia for that matter...

So what do you think people, keeping the Dollar fixed and not allowing that to float in the market is a good option for the development of this country...

:::MY TAKE IS "NO"...

Let the Dollar float...let it play around in the market and then U see ur corresponding factors get influenced as well like the BIG THING "INFLATION"...which accounts to a majority of other expense addition in this Good and Fast Paced Country...

So yea care to drop in your views while you pass by...

Other than hope u all have a fantastic and fabulously laid out morning...

Cheers...buddies...

Good morning Sarat...I can’t digest Economic review early in the morning…lol

Considering the current situation here, as I once suggested, with your qualification and experience you need to consider looking for a job in India. Your age is also a plus in the Indian IT job market. May be you have other personal reasons for being here. But for your career development it’s the right time to be in India. I am sure Hyd is more developed that Doha in all means.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so am I. If there are experts here on QL, well them let talk based on their experience and expertise, no one is stopping them from doing so. So far I haven't seen much posted on this thread besides the usual post of yours dissecting others. :)

About going back to home country for greener pastures, am glad your view concurs with mine. I suppose thats exactly what I said! Indian Rupee gaining against Qatari Riyal means a sound economy hence better opportunities back home. So where's the problem?

However, if you do work for a good employer, they do give timely shots in ones salaries to keep up with the inflation in Qatar.

Morning to u bro,

U know while I accept your side of the opinion, u know this was a thought that occured to me...bcos we have all come here to make money...(and merry ofcourse...LOL)...but then lets see how things will go...

As i already mentioned, I m sure there are much better experts sitting in the responsible chairs to do the needful, this was a rather enquiry as to see whether really Dollar Pegging is helping Qatar...maybe it is...for the Govt...but not for the mere public who are also putting their hands to support the economy...

So anyways, what else buddy hows things otherwise...

And spreaking of goin back home...well that wud be such a lovely option, but then u need a lot of will to take that...who knows...with circumstance beyond one's control, people cud take those type of decisions...

Letss see...

If I were to ask you what do u feel personally as a person who is also earning and making life here...whats ur take on this buddy...

And yes, I totally feel happy to be a part of such a strong growing economy named India...

Qatar is on the right road to development I am sure however, there are many issues to be dealt with.

Qater is not supporting labour, it is supporting the rich and the famous - they want to be acknowledged world wide, workers are a commodity being bouoht and sold although, badly needed, because there are still not enough Qataris in the working force and, are there Qatari labourers?

The QR is actually pegged to sales of oil, and the crises (man made) with Iran are helping the oil prices soar and which is an advantage to GCC countries.

The dollar is now so low, that people are investing in Euros instead.

The Rupeee is growing and so is the Indian economy as I have seen, however, on that note the blue card (perhaps) being offered in Europe falsifies the needs, because Europe is heading for a recession.

Germany 10 years ago released into early retirement many employees near or over 50 because it did not admit to the recession, it offered Indian Computer Engineers (Green Card) a great futures and finally had to cancel the Green Cards now Europe has invented a new colour (blue)which means Red is just around the corner.

Take a world wide perspective and look for yourself is the DOLLAR the main currency in the world??

Hello rayzz,

Well dude I think you're under-esteemating people here on QL, when you said "But it's easy for us on QL to sit and comment, am sure those guys know whats good for Qatar's economy and won't obviously be foolish not to foresee a bad scenario."

I think we can have our say on the situation, and I'm sure some would be able to analyse the thing even better than some experts. Maybe, theere are some real experts online now :)

Now for your last statement : "you're always free to go and seek greener pastures there." If things keep on deteriorating at such a rate, I think that's what will happen. I do like Qatar, and I would really like to settle down here, but not if my salary here equals mine there.

Best wishes :)

This assumes that there is some sort of planned path that the powers at be will stick to! Forward strategic planning has never been a trait of Qatar and most likely never will be...... partly due to greed, partly due to ex-pats not caring about the country they live/work in. So your best 2 just make the best of the current situation

Good morning buddy.

As the Finance Minister of Qatar clearly said a week or so back that dollar pegging enables Qatar to get better prices in the International market, which obviously wouldn't be possible if they were unpegged.

True, dollar has been hitting one low after the other (especially after the latest sanctions against Iran) in the last year or so. But it's easy for us on QL to sit and comment, am sure those guys know whats good for Qatar's economy and won't obviously be foolish not to foresee a bad scenario.

Speaking of Riyal to Rupee conversion, well isn't it good that Indian Rupee is growing stronger by the day against the Dollar? Speaks a lot for strong econonic times ahead, I guess. If you feel the Indian economy is vibrant enough and the price that you're getting paid to live in Qatar is not sufficient to stay away from home, you're always free to go and seek greener pastures there.

Cheers!

Indeed buddy...but i really dont see things changing looking at the way that Qatar is so blindly loyal to the US by not letting the Dollar Float...I m sure ppl in the Govt know their Economics better than me...but what they fail to see is the plight of the people in this country...even the locals who play with currency market...

Good morning Ksarat,

You know man, when I came here the exchange rate was sorta 2.50 DH (local currency) = 1QR, but I noticed this amount was dicreasing day after day . The last time I made a money transfer the rate was of 2.14 ???? I was a bit shocked. Now I have nothing to add other than confirming what you said . It's just the way I think now:

"am sure there wud be a time in the very near future, when quite a few of us starting asking the question to ourselves,,, we are staying miles away from what we call HOME...we struggle here day in day out (not on QL)...and what we get translates to almost negligible compared to if we were staying at HOME..."

Very true man. I hope things will change.
