I have a couple of western friends who are involved with Qatari men, and they say the same...it's no big deal...I think your right about the education factor...with less educated nationals, like many cultures it becomes more complicated as tradition oversees education.

I am a non Qatari married to a Qatari. It was not a big deal, and his family has always been happy and supportive of our choice. It happens more than most people think, especially among the more educated nationals.

here it is!A new law was amended recently(may be a year back). If u or anyone who has stayed in Qatar for 25 years or more, has proficient arabic knowledge and has not been in the court for crime r eligible for the qatar nationality.

Good news: U got just 3 more years inshallah

Bad news: ma frnd dad application rejected(around 26 years in qatar) coz he knew only to speak arabic but not write..so if ur not proficient..become b4 3 years.

Interestingly enough there was a film on TV last night about a Saudi without identification.

His mother was Saudi his father was Egyptian, he never received the Saudi Nationality. After beingcaught in a police control twice he was finally deported to Egypt, where he found out that being an Egyptian he had to also go to the army as this was part of being an Egyptian.

So what now??

I don’t know how often it happens! But I know in Arab countries with a very open society or the Arab countries with very high statistics in visiting tourists happens more! UAE, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco have seen a lot!

How often does this happen? Isn't there tremedous social pressure to marry within your own tribe (al-Naemi, al-Marri) let alone within your own nationaility (Qatari)? How does a man do it?

Well, it depends to the International Private Law (IPL) of any country! According to the IPL of most of the countries a person can adapt a nationality by the system of Blood or Soil. That means for example you can be a British if your parents are British according to what the system of Blood is saying! Or you can be a British if your birth had been in Britain & this is according to what the system of Soil is saying in the IPL of Britain.

Many modern countries had changed their IPL in this regard after the end of the world war the II & we can name: United States, North America (Canada), Almost all the European Countries, Russia and the old confederation countries or the Latest Common Wealth Countries & etc ….

But still no Arab country has changed their IPL in giving the nationality to any foreigner in their country by the system of soil which is going back to birth of a foreigner child which has born in their country! No matter how long he/she had been living in that country!

The only case a non Arab person can get a nationality of an Arab country is the Marriage and just the case of the Marriage of A foreigner girl to an Arab Man. Most of the Arab countries other than Lebanon, Egypt, and Tunisia are not accepting to give the nationality to a foreigner man who is marring a citizen girl of their country.

It is a very big chapter to describe.

Apply for the nationality and see what happens. If you are lucky enough you will get it.

i think what is being applied here is that, if your parents are of different nationality eventhough your where born and raised here, still you will not be considered as a Qatari... should your mother is a Qatari but your father is of different nationality, still you will not be considered as a Qatari because you will carry your father's name... but if your father is Qatari and your mother is not, this is the only time you can be of Qatari citizenship... anyway, have this one clarified because this is only what I know from a source...
