Qatar vs UAE
I been out of Qatar for over 2 months now, calling UK as a home. Found this article in the local paper.
I would like to know, if you dont live or working in Qatar, would you spend your holiday money to come and visiting the country, or you rather go someplace else ?

Doha takes on Dubai and Abu Dhabi as the ultimate Arabian destination
Men in white dishdashas and flowing head-dresses float through the Souq Waqif, followed by women dressed head to toe in black.
Like draughts on a board, they mingle in the narrow lanes of the market, pausing to buy colourful spices, fresh honey and pistachios from Iran.
Turn a corner, and you're dazzled by bolts of colourfully sparkling fabrics, walls lined with shoes, DIY stores selling objects whose use can only be guessed at. While you are admiring a hand-made lute-like oud or a set of Bedouin drums, a muezzin wails his exhortation to prayer as if from some invisible minaret.

I see Doha having so much Potential......
But to even equate Doha with Dubai is not only unfair but also shows the ignorance of the person about Dubai (at least in the last 3 yrs) or even of Qatar.
Doha is in a position when Dubai was around year 2000. It has the finances that Dubai never had. Thus it has the potential to outgrow Dubai.....
But "will it out grow Dubai"? is a good question...that only time can tell.
The photo of Roger Federer cool off in Doha, they did not mentioned that the beach is belongs to private hotel. You have to cough up hundreds of riyal to have access to nice beaches belongs to the hotel.
The public beach in the city ... is now converted to private hotel (Sharq Village). Normal people have to drive if they want to go to the beach ... and if you dont have a car means you are stuck ....
There was only one building in the west bay area when I came to this country years back. Over the years many things have changed....West Bay is looking really amazing...However, there are many other wonderful places in other parts of the globe for a holiday out....
maybe it's coz i've lived in the middle east almost all my life....but i find no fancy whatsoever for this region.i'd rather go visit some other place.....
Going to church no more makes you a Christian than standing in a garage makes you a car. ~ Garrison Keillor
@taliesin : I am enjoying the life here ... :) No more driving for me. Walking to most places. I remembered just before I left, I saw you in villagio with your daughter. We must have left about the same time. My son is fine, settling down well in his new school. THe things I missed most from Doha are friends that I have built over period of 8 years .... Dont think I will be getting as much as snow as you Taliesin :) But here in where I live, I always find tons of things to do for me and my son. Too many ... so we have to choose.
Must be a Dumb to choose either of it for a holiday..

I think it was Philip Larkin who said 'I wouldn't mind seeing China, if I could go home the same day'. Kind of sums up how I feel about the Gulf.
How are you all doing Novita? We left Doha for the US just over two months ago, where I am currently enjoying the outdoor life in Utah, looking forward to snow!. How is your little boy? The article makes Doha sound nice for a quick visit, but when you have to live there, well it can be a bit different, eh? Nevertheless, I have missed a few things, mainly to do with the home and friends I made. Once our shipment arrives here I will be well and truly over it. I guess you must be missing a few things too after quite a few years in Doha. Best wishes to you all and hope you enjoy living in my home country.
