Qapco makes world’s largest T-shirt to support Qatar 2022 bid

Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest T-shirt ever made, breaking the old one set in South Africa.

Yesterday, in front of thousands of supporters at Aspire Park, judges from Guinness World Records certified that the Qapco T-shirt, a white and maroon shirt over 72.2 metres long and 48.7 metres wide, was the world largest T-shirt ever made. It weighs six tons and covered 3516.25 square metres.

The crowd roared with joy when Gaz Deaves, Gaming Editor of Guinness World Records, said: “I am happy to announce a new Guinness record for the largest T-shirt.”

The South African record was set on September 15 this year for a T-shirt more than 64 metres long and 43 metres wide.

Dr Mohammed Yousef Al Mulla, General Manager and board member of Qapco, said it was exciting that Qapco had set a world record for the largest T-shirt.

“This initiative came as a result of the support of H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, the Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry, who clearly defined that our motive behind such an initiative is only to voice our unlimited support in the energy and industry sector for Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup here.”

Wow Congrats QAPO , A peculiar event yet again,... and to all those skeptics out there wee what’s wrong with a Guinness record for the largest T- shirt from a petrochemical company,Doha Bank had a similar record for the largest football back in 2006, rem? Petro companies are the major ones not affected by any sort of financial crunches,..... so they wanted to make a t-shirt, so?..... They [QAPCO] also organizes Flower Shows every year, and some skeptics can label that too as a waste of money, as flowers wilt after wards, now won't they?

atleast..try and develop this country...then hold the fifa..if u look at qatar, it is the most unplanned city ever, so much wastelands here and there..is there any city other than Doha?..( dont say alkhor or dukhan now!)..no planning, nothing is there. there r many other countries who deserve it k:-)

Couldnt they have come up with somethiing more efficient ?

a massive t shirt which is gonna b a total waste,as t shirts are meant to b worn, who is gonna wear this ? just to promote a bid, wasting money, fabric etc is pathetic, they couldve created more no. of t shirts ,small sizes n distributed in parts of the world where people r suffering to promote awareness about the sport

I Totally agree with edifis

There is absolutely no creativity in the idea, and I don’t understand why would a petrochemical company host such an event!

Maybe they should have showed their support with something environment friendly

Congrats QAPCO!

@ edifis You should learn how to appreciate and accept achievement of others rather than criticize it...they did this for the entire country not for you alone...

this waste of money and fabric!

They could have easily made something else like the biggest football shaped candy or a chocolate, so that people could eat it afterwards. But this of no use at all!
