John Oliver from Comedy Central riduculed the Qatari Ambassodor to the UN about 2 months ago - you can watch it on YOUTUBE just enter Qatar Ambassador in Videos and search - its first thing that pops up.  I think its disgraceful that they put the poor man in that position .  Why does the US media continually put down Arabs?

Do you think the Qatari Ambassador to the UN would consent to a media interview with COMEDY CENTRAL without realising that the interview would be, you know, comedic?

Or do you think the country has appointed UN Ambassador who wouldn't do this level of minor research, or who can't handle press scrutiny?

And russlindell's right - they do these sort of interviews all the time with all different types of people. Some are funny, some aren't.

luckyd - you've completely missed the point of the sketch. It's taking the micky out of the stereotype that Americans know nothing about foreign countries. It's a deliberately pointless and awkward interview but it isn't offensive in any way. And I think Nassir Al-Nasser, The Qatar's UN Ambassador, dealt with the interview very well.

This show does fake interviews with unsuspecting people all the time. They include US senators, nascar drivers, random people in the US and anyone else. The interview will go one of two directions. If the interviewee is a respectable person like the Qatari ambassador then the interviewer will ask hostile questions and accusations using a very dry tone. If the interviewee is considered contemptible like a fan who thought a woman nascar driver would turn nascar into a gay sport, the interviewer will ask understanding supportive questions. The point of the interviews is very tongue and cheek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue-in-cheek) and is not expected to be taken serious. Unfortunately for the respectable interviewees this is usually done at their expense. So said that to say this, this show does not target Arabs. I don’t necessarily agree with its approach but it wasn’t going out of its way to target Arab people. Go to www.thedailyshow.com to see other interviews where all sorts of people are made fun of.
