Qatar airways crew's accomodation

children from the sky
By children from t...

Qatar airways really sucks not only downgrading hotel accomodation to airport hotels nowsaday but cabin crew's accomodation in Doha as well. Before i joined QR i was from an UAE airline but i regretted that i left my previous airline to join QR. In my previous airline, majority of our apartments are 2 bedrooms and we have our own individual bathroom but in QR we all stay in 3 bedrooms apartment and some units have only one bathroom n three of us need to share it .It is so unhygenic, inconvenient and no privacy especially we need to use it at the same time before a flight. Moreover we are not allow to choose our housemate or choose which buliding that we want to stay but in my previous airline YES. Not only that, we can go and have a look first the building b4 we decide.Furthermore our buildings all are strategically located near corniche, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels and convenienve stores are plenty downstair our building but in QR if you don't have a car you can't go anywhere n the private taxi will charge you a lot.In QR visitors needs to leave crew's apt at 10pm but my ex co at 1am. Cabin manager has own apartment no need to share but QR even you are CM u need to share.ID 90 n 50 tickets are meant for immediate family members but my ex co we can give to anyone that we want. WE are given discounts in F&B in hotels, restaurants n pubs BUT in QR nothing at all.QR Standby if no call you will have nothing but my ex co we will get PAID. ABB wants not only to cut cost by putting all his crew at airport hotels but also wants to control our social life even out of base because we can't party in the city anymore by stayibg at airport hotel

You always should ask and negotiate about these details before you sign an employment contract.

Since you knew and agreed to all these, it's really not cool to vilify any company like this.

You can at any point just talk to them and ask for improvements, if you don't receive anything you are free to leave any company.

Money you can earn (+/- 15%) everywhere. The main thing is to be happy.

I was told that there are girls from airline companies in my building, but since i am rarely home, i haven't seen any of them to ask if they are happy:)))))))

theislander, to every kind of job there is the negative and positive. IF flying as cabin crew is your passion no amount of restriction or rules should put you down coz at the end of the day you are doing something you are passionate about. yes you will have to deal with the region and company's strict rules but if you do you job well there shouldn't be any problems. Go ahead for the interview and good luck! :)

Get over the tuff living.

You should not smoke and drink to much anyway.

Its for you own health and to be lady like.

Im not saying its going to be easy. But atleast its a good job unlike doing dishes at a stupid resturant for shit money.

Why dont you say something posiative instead of bagging out the airline thats paying for everything.

Everything is better when you stay posiative even if you think its shit.

Our job is tough and it's not that easy as you think. We've to read n remember everything in our safety, first aid manuals b4 every flight cos there will be a test during briefing and if we can't answer the questions we will b grounded n will face disciplinary action. Then on board the a/c we've to check safety equipments and our designated area. Some have to set up trolleys prepare welcome drinks ,carry heavy newspapers display n etc.Coordinate with catering, arrange the carts. When boarding assist guests in seatings ,storing bags.Seatbelt sign off , change to service black jacket, distribute n collect towels and amenities

Set up and heat the meals on time n load them in the MANY carts alone.Distribute the trays, prepare the drinks, top up more meals and drinks , collect them within the time given, throw away leftover and rubbish clean the cabin and galley.Answer requests promptly, clean and tidy up toilets all the time, write documentations, check the cabin all the time, prepare 4 the next crew, collect back blankets and etc.And change back to maroon jacket and touch up our make up and hair.DO you think that's easy???Qatari girls will not do this kind of job. It is not just waitering, we must be vigilant, alert all the time especially when people are sleeping, we are working!Physically and mentally fit and hv to watch our back not to do any mistake to prevent other crew and passengers to take advantage to stab and report you.

And it is TRUE, after all these hard work and pressure, we get to relax and forget when we stopover in different countries to enjoy the scenery ,food, culture and etc.IN fact i like this job BUT would prefer to work for a better airline which treats their crew better.

Of course we as a staff we know the owner. The owner is Qatar royalty. He entrusted the ONE that you mentioned sacking anyone on the spot without second chance and valid reason. And he is not original Qatari but he wears like one. My freind almost got sacked when he spot check during her flight because of her grooming. Her hair was a bit messy because of the hat she wore. Maybe she didnt arrange her hair after taking the hat off. Few years ago i heard a pilot got sacked because he took his hat off and did not wear it.There is no job's security in QR, we will get fired anytime without a valid reason. If the top people do not like ur face, that's it.There is no labour law and union to protect us here so we are always working in FEAR and ANXIETY.I shall stop writing and revealing the TRUE COLORS OF QR beacuse i am risking myself and dig my own grave. Why are u Cabin Crews complaining? At least yours is better, what abt the Ground staffs that are not even allowed to have a male visitor just for 5 mins in their accommodation? You travel out of doha when ever you are on duty, you get to see other places, what about the ground staffs who av curfew from 1200am? Iam sure none of these staffs was aware of these kind of working conditions before moving over here. i just hope one day,

I can assure you guys there are lots of complaints from OTHER flight deck crew and cabin crew as well .Pls type the website Qatar Airways Nazi Camp and Pprune under middle east airlines and Qatar Aiways. You will read more pilots complaining there. So those are happy must be unfairly treated very well by the management or they are the top management themselves. And QR has never been fair. And pls for goodness sake why QR got the most bad comments compare to other airlines???read and compare urself!Under our contract if we leave QR less than 2 years we have to compensate QR around 8000 riyals so i can't resign right now.And before we sign the contract it did not state that the 10 pm curfew and off days must sleep ur accomodation and etc." the contract should have clearly stated that you are being watched by cctv at our QR accomodation also

Frankly speaking QR accomodation is not that bad after all and it is considered expensive to live in our QR standard bulidings for average salary people .And it is free for cabin crew.Of course QR can't compare to other gulf carriers accomodation's standard which is higher. The major drawbacks are the stupid unreasonable rules and how QR treats its staff.I hv read one comment fr pilot at pprune. AAB said that we crew are cheap he can easily replace any of us!

Let me clear something here.do u know that it is very hard to get Karwa taxi especially during peak hours? If you are rushing and without a car!Somemore karwa is scarce. It is very bad to condemn private taxi drivers. They are mostly sri lankan and indians that earn a decent living by driving under the brutal hot sun during summer.Do you think they want to jeopardise their own rice bowl by involving in illicit activities? I think cabin crew are safer in private taxi hands rather than those drivers that who offer a free ride to hot chicks in the street waiting for a taxi!!! And regarding QR,the curfew at 10pm is reasonable considering other housemates BUT not allow to go or sleep somewhere else during off days and expect us to stay at home all the time is too much. We are human being that have feelings and we need to unwind during off days especially Qatar has not so many interesting places to go unlike Dubai or Abu Dhabi. We are not robot and QR is treating us like servant rather than an asset. That's why many crew left QR to join EY and EK because there is quality life over there ,more salary and more happiness because crew's welfare is well taken care of.

Sorry I keep doing that QR I apologise.

It's not really the same the World over is it, BA are not hiring barely literate girls from the Indian Subcontinent now are they. QR and Gulf Air and Emirates are probably the only ones actively doing this.

Are girls hired by BA forced to live in a City with officially the most lop sided male female ratio in the WORLD. IN A MUSLIM Country, where men dominate. Not really.

Now I know that many girls actually enjoy the job and don't think too badly about the Company as they understand why the rules are there, and I have to say in the most part I agree with them, just not the draconian way they are sometimes implimented.

Look at it from the Girls point of view, imagine being away from home for the first time in your life and having your own money then imagine doing all that In DOHA.

They have only my deepest sympathy to be honest.

And even once you get to be a senior mama, there are days that can still give you fits. But most flight attendants wouldn't give it up for all the tea in China. Give it two years, that seems to be the make it or break it time frame. Good luck.

Take it easy darksindeep, I did not say they are thick, being illiterate is a product of poor education standards in the girls home countries they are not stupid, they just have different standards perhaps to more industrialized nations.

The problem is these girls are away from home for the first time they are young naive and have money in their pockets, and sadly some people do take advantage.

Other more experienced girls do warn them about the MMDs (My Mohammad is different syndrome, if you are wondering) but time and again sadly fall for it. Add in the availability of alcohol a sex starved Muslim majority population and bingo a recipe for disaster.

The rules probably do more good than harm in the long run.

Also the rule that prohibits people staying over past 10pm was for two reasons.

1. Prominent Qataris were using some of the girls as prostitutes and their wives were not happy.

2. Some girls from the less industrialized nations were moving their families in for extended periods of time.

You have to be with the company for three years before you can marry.

I heard a story recently about the airline, they hired a dozen Swiss Girls, they quit after 2 weeks disgusted at the way people were treated.

QA is not a great airline to work for, AAB has created a situation where the reputation of the airline for crew is so bad that they simply cannot get decent qualified crew, this has forced them to hire crew that no one else would touch, the girls are barely literate and can barely believe their luck when they are hired.

The problem is these girls are not very well behaved or well mannered and has caused problems for the airline, hence draconian measures came in to control the girls and hastening the downward spiral. Shame. The service is generally good.

think about it ..

they start getting married .

complications might arise .

Qatar airways cabin crew , how many years in a row now ?? you guys are at top compared to the rest . why because of the rules implied ... getting married bring a lot of responsibilities and even additional pressure on a person .

you guys need to be on your best every single day ..

come to think of it , i kinda feel sad for you guys now :-(

u guys need to get permission to get married / fall in love .... that is heeee sorry , that is just not right ...

but still for the better of the company ^_^

yeah, i can feel you too! unlike any other airline, we are not allowed to laugh in the airport, we are not allowed to drink any other beverage than water inside the fleet, not allowed to smoke or drink in the flat, we are not allowed to ride private taxis and mostly, the 10pm curfew, but aside from that, i love everything! QA is as strict as the military because they are concerned about the crews. i hate GCC turnarounds! i hate more than 13 hours of flight including JFK!

as for the accommodation, i was impressed the first time i got in! its not that bad, you know.

i used to work in Gulf Air BTW.

BOW.

Unfortunately that is how things are here. I hope it would get better, but I doubt it.

Can't you get housing allowance and you get your own place elsewhere?
