nabunabeeb,

Taxless money? Dude, wake up and smell the coffee.

No one here is offending hijabs and/or veils, so please don't put things out of context.

We may not have taxes but rents are way overpriced compared to the quality... no real possibilities of acquiring our own property and even if there is who wants when the law stipulates that expats are 3rd class citizens.

Nothing is FREE!

Don't expect love when the system was made to remind you every single day that you have, sooner or later, an expiration date stamped on your soul.

And anyone knows not all laws will appeal or seem fair by everyone. However they are to be followed..period.

That said I just came back from shopping and witnessed at least two ladies who were violating the rules, and that too out in the open. So quite clearly it's not really a strict law.

Personally I must add I do find it quite unfair on Non Muslims being told what to wear. Kinda like telling them not to eat and drink in public in Ramadhan. And I feel that by imposing such regulations the chances of niqabs/hijabs/beards been banned increase as well. However that's just my opinion, and I can only assume the lawmakers must have some wisdom in why they do what they do and have plans as to how to counter any backlashes...at least I hope!

u surely didnt imagine Qatar or any other middle eastern nation to be a paradise was it...wats the point make a hue and cry now...deal with it or else use the new airport which will be ready soon and..

no offence at all at any particular indivdual, community or religious group..

I doubt whether the government would step in because it would go against much of what they are trying to portray - it would make them akin to saudi.

They are therefore using a different tack. They are using various avenues to send out signals to the expats and expecting people to come into line. Having said that, I beleive that it is only a very tiny minority which they are addressing.

By anonymous• 5 Jun 2012 13:27

I guess if they want to be really safe and protect their culture they need to do the following:

1. Shut the airport

2. No holidays in Europe during the summer

3. Block the internet 100%, no access

4. Block all international TV channels

5. Send all expats home

This way their sons will be safe from thinking about or seeing sin.

By anonymous• 5 Jun 2012 13:19

The reason its fine to wear such clothes i europe is because everyone has sex there , they are not sex hungry like qatar???

If qatar had more sex , then there wouldnt bwe such a law , you see these women with no bras , you get agitated and then you8 go sin ful acts!

By sly• 5 Jun 2012 13:14
sly

QLers its just a matter of respecting the tradition of the country you are temporarily living in. for Muslim mom's they do not want their sons to see legs, shoulders and reveling flesh as for them its a temptation and its making them sin. for expats maybe its ok to wear these sexy revealing clothes in your country but you have to think that this is not your country and you are just here to benefit of Qatar's wealth and oil =) so pls be discreet and respect their rules and tradition, then if you cannot, better go back to your home country where waht you want to wear or wearing nothing at all is OK and still considered decent!

its just a matter of decency... just think to yourself is "not wearing bras out of my house decent?!" haha, then you'll understand the meaning of decency

True enough Cherukkan.

But on the pearl, alcohol was taken away because the government stepped in and dealt with the problem.

I would feel much more comfortable about the dress code issue if it was government approved and government organised. I don't think we should be encouraging individual citizens to take it upon themselves to enforce their idea of the law. Where, in law, does it say that your knees must be covered?

I'm supportive of clear rules about what you can and cannot wear. I've never disagreed with that. But there are enough police and government officials in this country to handle the matter.

Vigilantism usually ends badly. Let's hope that we don't find clothing police staking out hotel lobbies, beaches, parks, the areas inside our compounds, gyms etc because they think that in their opinion people are dressing "illegally".

HaHaHa

Abdulwasay that post is so ridiculous it is funny!

The reason you have more stable marriages is if the guy isn't happy he can simply marry another wife..

If the wife wants to divorce the guy, she will be outcast and no one will ever marry her again so hardly likely to happen..

It used to be socially unacceptable in the west to get divorced aswell, but people have woken up to the fact that is it possible to make mistakes so why should you spend your whole life being miserable as you married the wrong person

Hmm Western media trying impose the ways they think is right?

How about in the M.E. where if you criticise the leader or religion you could end up with the the death penalty!

Like that guy in Kuwait the other day for instance..

And on charity hmmmm? Well heres a list of the 10 most charitable nations from this report by the Charities Aid Foundation for 2011

I've seen many Asians, Arabs and Africans both Muslims and Non Muslims wearing indecent clothes in public. Yes, a good move by a Muslim country to introduce a dress-code (don't except freedom from a country who did not claim to give you any)

And yeah, similar restrictions are there for men too, i don't know about other places but we are not allowed to even enter any govt. organization wearing shorts etc. --- source: Personal experience

I like the idea behind it too Genesis.

I am just a little confused, if public decency laws are LAWS then why is this not something that the government is handling?

Because if this is something that is of such importance to Qatar, surely there would be something official right?

Ultimately this poster merely tells us what SHOULD be covered. But why not tell us what, BY LAW, must be covered?

Ironically there is one group who is waging Psychological warfare by controlling media, entertainment industry, news channels to impose the ways they thought is right ,and on the other hand there is one group which is just following their ways of life and others are getting offended only by seeing them , there is one group who let no stones unturned to make impose there laws and on other hand there is one group which is just just advising and guiding people to follow the theirs.

Compared to previous attempts, I think this initiative shows a nice gesture

Not only locals bothered by the upsurge of revealing clothes at public, also other Arab/Muslim communities. In fact , who started this in local newspaper is a report by an Egyptian journalist

Marco,

People in the West wear what they want (including hijab) because they are supposed to be free. In Qatar they make no such claims of freedom so people observe a dress code.

It seems that people like you, who want to introduce dress codes in the West, are trying to be more like those in the Middle East.

Make up your mind Marco, you can't have it both ways, either you support freedom and live in the West or you support bigotry and live in the ME. Did you come to Qatar so that you could be with like minded people?

Would love to see what would happen if they went back to their own countries and they did the same thing haha

Speaking of that can't wait for Abu Qatada ass to be kicked back to Jordan, we will see how much he hates the west then :-0

I think the OP on this thread has a severe case of Stockholm Syndrome..

Being an Indian national he is probably almost discriminated against daily....

And as many have commented why does this only target Women????

I recently made a comment to another Indian friend about Indian Muslims being the worse offenders when it comes to bashing the west and trying to convert everyone they come accross... My friend said she'd seen how bad they get too.

Its almost like they are trying to prove how muslim they are in the hope that they will gain something...

Its quite a chuckle really, since everyone knows trying to be more Qatari than Qataris actually gets you NOWHERE!!! Except eventually, deported....

MarcoNandoz-01 : We also noticed a lot of headscarves, extremely long beards, and very long and dark clothing being worn freely in public places by descendants of the veiled people which includes Church Priests, Nuns who wears a headscarf and long clothes, Jewish monks who have the long beards and a cap , and the POPE who wears a long robe and off-course a Head cap.

Everybody in the west should also ban them and the only people permitted should be Nudist, Naturist,Satanist cults, hippies etc..

If he wants to form his own party in the UK and win enough seats to form a government then he can pass laws because he has a mandate. I find it very unlikely the people of the UK would vote for their own oppresion but they will defend his right to say whatever nonesense he chooses to spout, unless he advocates violence against certain groups.

From what I have seen, there is a good approach behind this campaign, personally I don't think there is any offense behind it. What I am really concerned is that it only targets women but you can spot some males wearing tank tops inside shopping malls.

Now this one goes to the thread starter, Mr. Sajmarwab.

Next time you are posting something that it's been launched by a third-party/organization, please quote the source and don't hijack it!

Be reminded that your nationality is INDIAN. You will not be getting any special entitlements over any other thid country nationals simply by calling yourself a muslim.

Is your name Najla Al-Mahmoud? I guess not.

turbohampster :Ironically it’s part of the Psychological Conquest of the West by the veiled people.

There are two types of Muslims living in the West. The first type is the highly educated well assimilated very articulate and contributing back into the society that made them the respected people they are. The second type of Muslims are the ones like the poster of this thread or like the nutjob Anjumin Rusdhi from the Islamic liberation front who two years ago was on BBC bragging about how he wants to see the Islamic banner flying on Buckingham palace and in 10 downing street. Such nutjobs who continue to freely and publicly discuss their plans to overthrow Western governments and replace Western law with bearded men and veiled women.

Now check this out turbohampster, this kind of seditious speech is ostensibly tolerated by the BBC under the umbrella of free speech freedom of expression/religion bullox!

Hence the West continues to be psychologically conquered by the de facto imposition of supremacist Islamists.

I have heard that they are targeting Aspire Park now. A friend told me that they will now stop people who are wearing their national dress from entering the Aspire Park. He was referring to security guys stopping people in Pakistani national clothes as well as the Guys with long shirts (kurta's) ..

What next?

Well you probably go with your family then..

And don't tell me I am talking rubbish... Just go to City Centre or Villagio before it was closed, any friday and see the amount of single asian workers not allowed in. While any single guy who looks Arabic or has white skin can freely enter..

And I'm European and allowed in but it still makes me very angry, so Im surprised you are defending this practice!!

… we only want them to assimilate and integrate in to the society they live in... It’s a matter of etiquette and class.... "

Yes I would agree with that statement

But the point he is making is you guys always say this in the M.E. and then completely ignore it when you are in the West because you have the freedom to do so..

Well its summer time and I’m starting to feel and I’m a man! let alone these poor guls who have to wear bras so that perverts like poster of this thread won't eat her with their eyes !besides bra straps in this crazy heat makes women’s skin very itchy. It’s an irritating feeling to have under your bra!

I think something like this would be good advice to the expats but I disagree on two things.

1. This is discriminatory and targets women

2. The statement that if you are on our land you are one of us is plainly wrong. Expats are constantly told you are not one of us and you are here temporarily. You cannot have it both ways.

It's good to have an idea of what is deemed appropriate wear..I myself have been surprised at the lack of clothing on some lately!..You have to be respectful of the country you have chosen to live in

We also noticed a lot of Nigabs, headscarves, Pakistani Shrwals, extremely long beards, and very long and dark clothing being worn freely in public places by descendants of the veiled people.

I don’t blame these foreigners as they come from a different culture and our government accepts them the way they are. That’s why everybody in west should rally to ban it!

We don’t want to interfere with anyone’s religion and force them to wear take off the Hejab … we only want them to assimilate and integrate in to the society they live in... It’s a matter of etiquette and class. We want to be able to go to public places without a lot of dark shadows all around us.

We noticed a lot of shorts, spaghetti straps, transparent and very tight clothing being worn freely in public places.

I don’t blame foreigners as they come from a different culture and they don’t know that it’s not acceptable… that’s why a group of ladies from different group of age gathered and decided to do something for Qatar.

We don’t want to interfere with anyone’s religion and force them to wear hijab … we only want modest clothing. It’s a matter of etiquette and class. We want to be able to go to public places without a lot of flesh around us.
